Bottled 2/18/14 and poured into a Sam Adams Perfect Pint on 4/17/14. $3 single, so it's a reasonable price for an Evil Twin beer.

Appearance: Well. If you get the whole bottle in, say hello to a massive amount of huge floaters and some serious sediment. Very hazy color that looks like diarrhea water with all of the floaties. Nice and sustained three finger off-white soapy head. Looks rather unappealing with the color and floaters. I like the head on it though (Who doesn't like some good head!?).

Smell: Hop Flood indeed. Pure, ripe, sharp pine and grass hops with a lot of resinous smells. Some good caramel malt in there as well, but this is an amber? It really smells like an IPA to me. The only thing making me think otherwise so far is the appearance.

Taste/feel: Hm. Well. Yeah, hm... alright. I don't know. Interesting, I suppose. My immediate thought is that this beer has more bitterness than actual flavor. There's a nice pleasant little rush of hops initially, maybe a trace of malt, and then a bitter, bitter, bitter finish. No idea what the IBUs are on this, but it's gotta be high. The burps are tasting like straight up hop cones. I'm not sure just why this is listed as an amber, because it really tastes nothing like an amber to me. It's hops through and through with an intense bitterness -- not much balance to speak of. It's a good beer, and an extreme one, but so is Molotov Cocktail... that beer from Evil Twin had some balance to it. The feel here is moderate all around with texture and carbonation.

All-in-all, disappointed, and probably my least favorite Evil Twin beer. The hops are bursting fresh and tasty, but where's the malt? Going by the color of this beer and then the flavor, the amount of hops in this brew must be off the chart. It's a pretty good beer, but not what I'd expect from Evil Twin (...greatness, basically).

The malt comes through a bit more as Hop Flood warms up, but it's still not something I'd pick up if I wanted an amber.

Pours an effervescent & slightly hazed caramel/orange with a pinky of cream colored head. Never clears up, very good lacing & head retention

S: Pineapple, leafy hops & grapefruit

T: Follows the nose, plus breadyness, some pineyness & a little bit of caramel & boozeyness up front. More leafy & woody hops as this warms & just a little bit of brown sugar dryness/sweetness, plus boozeyness. Finishes dry with woody hops, boozeyness & a little pineapple

MF: Medium bodied, creamy carbonation, some sticky notes

A nice hoppy brown, bordering on amber

Pours a hazy, dark brown color. 1/3 inch head of an off-white color. Great retention and great lacing. Smells of hops, slight citrus, roasted malt, slight sweet malt, and a hint of biscuit. Fits the style of an American Brown Ale. Mouth feel is sharp and crisp, with an average carbonation level. There is also a noticeable dryness. Tastes of citrus hops, slight roasted malt, hint of sweet malt, and a hint of alcohol. Overall, great appearance, good aroma, and blend.

Pours darker than I expected. Maybe I just don't know what anything is supposed to look like anymore with black-browns and brown-ambers and whatever else. Anyway. Very citrusy-piney and somewhat sweet aroma. Very hoppy, again with the pine and citrus flavors, some caramel-malt sweetness, some coppery hints. Good amount of lingering bitterness.

A: Pours a crystal clear dark amber in color with light to moderate amounts of active visible carbonation rising from the bottom of the glass and strong copper highlights. The beer has a half finger tall dense foamy beige head that slowly reduces to a very large patch of thin film covering almost the entire surface of the beer and a thin ring at the edges of the glass. Light amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Moderate aromas of hops - citrus/orange, citrus/orange zest, herbal, and very light hints of pine. There is also a light amount of caramel and toasted malts underneath the hop aromas.

T: Upfront there is a just shy of moderate flavors of slightly toasted and caramel malts with barely any hints of sweetness. There are aggressive slightly stronger than moderate flavors of hops - citrus/orange, herbal, and some light hints of pine. Moderate amounts of bitterness which lingers for quite a while.

M: Medium bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation. Slightly crisp with hints of dryness in the finish.

O: As I would expect in a beer named Hop Flood, there is a very nice presence of hops in this beer which are slightly aggressive - really enjoyable from my perspective. Alcohol is well hidden and the beer is enjoyable though not the easiest drinker with the aggressive hops and bitterness.

Bottled 2/18/14.

Pours a murky orange-brown with a foamy khaki head that settles to a partial film on top of the beer. Small streaks of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of malt, grapefruit juice, citrus zest, and slight herbal hop aromas. Taste is much the same with earth and citrus zest flavors on the finish. There is a medium amount of hop bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer that is tasty, but has a fairly assertive bitterness that lingers after each sip.
