Solid barleywine. Pours a dark reddish amber color with a medium size light tan head. Head retention is good. Bands of lacing on the glass. A pretty good looking beer.

Fairly rich aroma of sweet caramel malt, toffee and some hops bitterness.

Flavor is fairly pronounced as well. Nice balance between malt and hops. More malt forward with a rich, sweet malty presence. Caramel malt and hops are nicely balanced, with the hops keeping the sweetness in check.

Mouthfeel is rich and sweet with a little hops bite and some warming from the alcohol.

I would drink this one again...Good take on an American Barleywine.

Bottled 3/12/14 and poured 6/16/14. A little old for a hop-forward beer, but it shouldn't be too bad. I think a single was $4 or maybe a bit less, but I don't remember.

Appearance: Aggressive pour gave about a finger and a half of a slightly creamy very light tan head. Not much lacing, but a little. The beer is a very nice deep brown/copper color. This has to be the clumpiest beer I've ever seen -- massive floaters in the beer and a good amount of sediment. Looks pretty good overall.

Smell: Lots of sweet malt. There's a lot of nondescript hoppy fruitiness, and then the earthy/herbal/grassy/spicy qualities from the hops as well. The heavy malt sweetness on the nose suggests this is what it is -- an American Barleywine.

Taste/feel: Huge sweetness on the front -- one of the sweeter Barleywines I've had at the start, American OR English. The finish though is dry with a pretty solid hoppy bitterness I'd expect from the style. This is an intense beer. The style itself normally is, but I can't imagine how damn bold and intense this beer would be if it were fresh. Spicy qualities with sweet malt on the front, and then a spicy, fruity, earthy hop flavor on the finish with a nice bitterness and lingering malt flavor. Pretty well done. Pretty full body with a moderate carbonation that helps aid in "oomphing" the bitterness.

It's a sipper. Honestly, even though I don't taste or so much feel the alcohol in this beer, it drinks like it's 15% just because of how it tastes and feels. Freudian Slip is a very good beer and quite good for the style, but it's a let down just because I expect everything I have from Evil Twin now to be World Class... maybe that's my fault, but the price is a bit high. I'd recommend it if you like super bold beers and/or American Barleywines.

Poured into snifter; ruddy chestnut in color, translucent in light. Minimal off-white head that fades after a few moments into a thin ring of tiny foam and some spotty lacing.
Smells of sweet bready malt and candied fruit, booze.
Taste is very sweet, I'm glad I have some 3 year cheddar here to cut it between sips. The sweetness fades into some boozy bread flavors, finishing off with some piney hops.
Mouthfeel is medium-thick and slick.
Overall, this barleywine is a bit one-dimensional but it's drinkable and relatively tasty.

Pours a two-finger, khaki head that fades slowly leaving a good lace. Hazy amber color. light-medium carbonation and medium bodied. Nose is malty fruit, flavor is blend of roasted malt, brown sugar and hops. Lingering hoppy aftertaste. Higher ABV is hidden. $4.99 for a 12oz bottle from Julio's Liquors Westborough, MA. Bottled Mar 12, 2014.
