Appearance: copper, amber. Clear. Nice swath of reddish head
Smell: pleasant enough though not very rich. Some grapefruit. Malty base.
Taste: much like the nose. Pleasant enough though not a lot happening. Grapefruit and malt, a slightly bitter finish.
Overall: to sum up a good, not great American barley.

Poured into snifter; ruddy chestnut in color, translucent in light. Minimal off-white head that fades after a few moments into a thin ring of tiny foam and some spotty lacing.
Smells of sweet bready malt and candied fruit, booze.
Taste is very sweet, I'm glad I have some 3 year cheddar here to cut it between sips. The sweetness fades into some boozy bread flavors, finishing off with some piney hops.
Mouthfeel is medium-thick and slick.
Overall, this barleywine is a bit one-dimensional but it's drinkable and relatively tasty.

Poured out a ruddy brown color with small off white head approaching beige.

Alcohol the most noticeable aroma, a cigarette ashtray comes across as well.

Ooof, tons of alcohol noticeable on the palate. It really is the dominant aspect of the beer.
A little bit of a thicker, more syrupy mouthfeel, but it still isn't getting me to a point where I like much of this beer. Alcohol dominates any hops or malt flavors. Caramel, raisins, prunes, rubbing alcohol. Pretty bitter, but can't discern if that is from the hops or something else.

Thanks to Reno Dave for bringing this bottle to the Reno bottleshare. No thanks to Dave Hurley of the El Dorado casino (sports bar suit guy) for renigging on their word allowing our bottle share so they could purportedly keep the BMC distributor happy.

This one is a pass for me, glad I got to try it without buying. Would not recommend.

I don't generally like barleywines but this one is worth getting- well balanced malt sweetness with a little dryness from the hops. Surprisingly not cloying as most barleywines are. There's some dark fruit in there but nothing overwhelming. Just a nice warming beer.

Bottled 3/12/14

Pours an effervescent orange with a finger of cream colored head. Very good lacing & head retention

S: A little bit of breadyness. leafy hops as this warms & orange peels & faint boozey notes

T: Breadyness, dryness, plumyness & a bit of toffee up front & touch of tangerine. Toffee & woody hops as this warms, a bit of pineapple as well. Finishes with pineapple, passion fruit, leafy, woody, & herbal hops & dry

MF: Medium bodied, firm carbonation, good balance

A decent barley wine, seems as much an English Barley Wine as an American... Good, but too expensive to buy again...

Served from bottle into a Green Man snifter. Poured a murky yellowish brown with a two finger khaki colored head that subsided to one finger very slowly. Maintained phenomenal lacing throughout the glass. The aroma was comprised of sweet malt, citrus, citrus hop, caramel, caramel hop, wood, and subtle vanilla. The flavor was of sweet malt, citrus, caramel, wood, alcohol, dark chocolate, and caramel hop. It had a heavy feel on the palate with medium-high carbonation. Overall this a fairly good brew. I really hate to say it, but this one was a little too boozy on the flavor for my liking. There were lots of things going in this one, but the booze just stole the show. Really unfortunate that was the case. Still not bad, but I doubt I could drink a full 750 mL bottle myself.

From the 12 fl. oz. bottle dated 03/12/14. Sampled on May 18, 2014. This is the one brewed in Connecticut.

The pour is an attractive dark amber with ruby red highlights glistening around the edge of the glass all under a cream-colored delicate head.

In the aroma the main thing I get at first is a complex dark fruit character akin to plum or prune but the barley malts are not that far behind. Also I pick up a little black licorice and no booze bite.

The body is bold and smooth.

Those vibrant fruit notes are also in the taste but the malts carry themselves forward as well. Still no boozy taste but the hop bitterness at the end is pungent and lingering. Not something I got on the nose but a satisfying conclusion.

22 ounce bottle, label says best before 2015. I've had this bottle a while so I know it's not exactly fresh. Served in a snifter, the beer pours a murky garnet/brown color with about a half inch light tan head. Head retention and lacing are both decent. The brew smells like toffee, brown sugar, molasses, and dark fruit. I think the taste is similar to the aroma, but there's the addition of some caramel, earthiness, pine and dark bread. Nice mix of sweet and bitter flavors. Mouthfeel/body is medium/full, it's a bit syrupy and sticky with moderate carbonation. I thought this brew was good, it's worth a try. $11.99 a bottle.
