Poured from a bomber into a Stone IRS snifter.
A - Black. Pure pitch black darkness, even at the edges of the glass when tilted. Virtually no head, even after a vigorous pour, which is surprising, given the carbonation.
S - Burnt malt, sweet caramel, and toffee dominate the nose. Virtually no hops at all to speak of. Smells delicious, but a little sweeter than I would have expected.
T - Heavenly. The caramel and toffee notes dominate, with a strong backbone of coffee and burnt malt. No hops to speak of, but that's fine by me for the style.
M - Thick, heavy, syrupy, and a surprising amount of carbonation. It doesn't seem possible to be syrupy and well-carbonated, but this beer pulls it off.
O - Definitely a must-try stout if you get the chance. It's not "well balanced", but it's exactly what is expected out of the style. It's an extreme beer that is extremely well-made.
I picked this one up in Seattle and shipped it back to CA... so I'm not really sure where else it's available.
