A - Dark black pour with a small, tight, creamy, smooth, dark tan head. Disappears fairly fast leaving just a whisper of lacing.
S - Coffee, dark and bittersweet chocolate, and mocha dominate the nose. There is a hint of almond and vainilla sweetness with a caramel, toffee, and cream sweetness that emphasizes those notes.
T - Wow! (I could leave it at that, but I'll expound) Chocolate and coffee are the dominate flavors here as well but this is a very deep beer. Starts out with a mocha and bittersweet chocolate flavor. Mid sip it sweetens up a bit with the vainilla coming out more which gives this a sweet chocolate cake/fudge aspect. Hints of coffee (with only a slight, albeit nice, astringency). Almond sweetness starts to creep in on the finish leading to a strong coffee showing on the finish. All these flavors then linger on your tongue enticing you to drink more.
M - Medium to full body. Average carbonation for the style. Very smooth, creamy, and velvety which adds to that sweet chocolate flavor. Alcohol is non-existent in the taste; it is the bold flavors that make me want to just sip this.
D - Was definitely a sipper, but it was extremely easy to sip. The layers of flavor had me wanting to drink more, especially when the taste lingers that long.
Notes: A really good "flavored" Imperial Stout. Coffee and chocolate dominated as expected, but the vainilla and to a lesser extent the almonds had their time to shine. All the flavors complimented each other wonderfully (the vainilla and chocolate together especially). I would love to have this in the morning or for dessert any day in lieu of coffee. Delicious.
