22oz bottle from Bruisin Ales (Asheville, NC). 16.00. Served in a Sweetwater snifter.
Pours black as night with a gorgeous 1.5 finger deep mocha head. Very little lacing, with most of those dark islands of near-brown bubbles slowly creeping back down to join the brew from whence they came.
Interesting sweet nose. Creamed coffee, amaretto, caramel, cocoa, vanilla. Very inviting!
Taste follows the nose well. Bittersweet coffee leads. Nice blend of mild vanilla, almond and cocoa flavors creep in behind. Also some char (in a good malty stout way), faint dark fruits, creamer and burnt sugar. Every now and then there is a reminder that this packs over 11% abv but the many excellent flavors do a great job hiding the alcohol.
Medium full feel with moderate sharp carbonation. Long pleasing bitter coffee aftertaste.
A pleasantly different angle on a favorite style of mine- the coffee stout. There is something reminiscent of Westbrook's Mexican Cake- perhaps that great chocolatey background. This is well worth the fairly hefty price and I really must find another of these to try again in 12-18 months when the flavors will be blended even better and the feel will be even creamier. I highly recommend buying this if you find it- and then sending it to me!

Appearance: Dark tannish brown head. Nice lacing of thick and viscous liquid bread.
Smell: Very enticing smell of Coffee and dark chocolate, brown sugar, caramel, and cream.
Taste: Well hidden booze out of that caramel and creme. I can drink this brew any time.
Mouthfeel: Viscous and chewy...light heavy feel. I might be bias on this one coz' I had a stronger beer before this. I could've mess with my palate before I had this but it still came out awesome.
Overall: This brew is amazing! I'll seek it again. I hope it becomes available more often in my area . It's all worth it.
