Notes/Commercial Description:
The Roman Empire had a certain "je ne sais quoi" - festive food culture, extravagant architecture, and spectacular live entertainment. Some might argue the Emperors were brutal, mad, and hungry for power, and the people vain when taking baths and working out all day. Listen - that's still all part of the secret Imperial ingredient - keep it cool, clean, confident, arrogant, and flamboyant. Forza Imperiale.

A - Jet black, tan head has decent retention with good lace.

S/T/M - Similar, with smooth roasted creamed coffee and milk chocolate sweetness. Taste more bold than aroma. Full, thick, chewy body. Finishes with a cookie dough sweetness and chocolate syrup.

O - Spectacular for what its meant to be. I found it very similar to Founders Breakfast Stout (a good thing), with added bready, cookie malts in the finish. I'd definitely get this again, and seek out the variants.

look: 4 | smell: 4.5 | taste: 4.5 | feel: 4.25 | overall: 4.5

Poured from a 22 oz. bottle into a Brooklyn chalice.

Appearance: Pours pitch black with a lot of bubbles. About one finger of deep tan head that fades into a thin creamy layer. Leaves a decent amount of lacing.

Smell: A roasty, sweet, and earthy dark malt forward aroma with big hints of dark chocolate and coffee. Dark roasted barley malts with big hints of dark chocolate, coffee beans, vanilla, milk, caramel, toast, biscuit, grains, nuts, and yeast. Sweet hints of molasses. Hints of anise licorice spicing. Subtle dark fruit hints of cherry and raisin. Subtle earthy hints of hops in the background. A very good stout aroma.

Taste: Like the nose, a roasty, sweet, and fairly earthy dark malt driven taste with a big presence of dark chocolate and coffee. Upfront dark roasted barley malts with good notes of dark chocolate, coffee beans, vanilla, caramel, milk, dough, biscuit, nuts, toast, grains, and yeast. Sweet taste of molasses and sugar. Notes of anise licorice. Fairly earthy with some background notes of hops. Light dark fruit undertones of raisin and cherry. A very good imperial stout taste.

Mouthfeel: Full bodied with a moderate amount of carbonation. Very creamy and slick. Alcohol presence is noticeable but not overwhelming.

Overall: A very good take on an imperial stout. On the sweeter side but far from cloying. Very good chocolate and coffee presence.
