Notes/Commercial Description:
The Roman Empire had a certain "je ne sais quoi" - festive food culture, extravagant architecture, and spectacular live entertainment. Some might argue the Emperors were brutal, mad, and hungry for power, and the people vain when taking baths and working out all day. Listen - that's still all part of the secret Imperial ingredient - keep it cool, clean, confident, arrogant, and flamboyant. Forza Imperiale.

A: Pours utterly black, viscous with a medium brown head that lasts longer than expected (given the 11.5% alcohol content).

S: Sweet, amaretto-like almond character as well as coffee, dark chocolate and roasted malt in the nose.

T: Sweet iced coffee, almond, blackened malt, excessively dark chocolate, yet there is a sweetness to it.

M: Full bodied and creamy smooth.

O: I did not expect this beer to smells so sweet or taste quite as bitter as it is (not that it's all that bitter, it's about as bitter as coffee), and the addition of coffee probably cuts what would probably be too much sweetness. I'd definitely recommend this beer.

No date on the bottle just Best before 2015 on the label. Produced and bottled by Westbrook Brewing. Pours black and slightly thick viscosity. An attractive chocolate colored two finger head that had good retention before settling to a thick cap. Sheets of lacing is left down the glass.

Aroma of bitter chocolate and roasted malt. A little disappointed that I cannot pick out much for coffee. No sign of alcohol.

Slightly improved flavor. Very heavy with the chocolate but some coffee hints finally makes an appearance. Bitterness seems to come from the roasted malt but this stout is on the sweeter side. Slight alcohol flavor and warmth.

Thick and rich body. Really nice carbonation gives the body a smooth, gentle texture that is well suited for a big stout.

Got the beer at a considerable discount and I am happy about that. I was hoping for a lot more coffee. More of a sweet chocolate stout that turns out to be slightly disappointing.

22 oz bottle. Pours dark brown/black with a medium creamy brown head that slowly goes to a thin film that leaves a little lacing.

The aroma is sweet fudgy chocolate with some roast, flowers and some tart fruit.

The flavor is sweet lactic chocolate with some roast coffee, vanilla, fruit and a fairly bitter finish. The alcohol is warming but not overbearing. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with low carbonation.

Overall, it's OK. Too sweet and alcoholic for me. The floral fruitiness didn't mesh well with the roast chocolate to me.
