Notes/Commercial Description:
The Roman Empire had a certain "je ne sais quoi" - festive food culture, extravagant architecture, and spectacular live entertainment. Some might argue the Emperors were brutal, mad, and hungry for power, and the people vain when taking baths and working out all day. Listen - that's still all part of the secret Imperial ingredient - keep it cool, clean, confident, arrogant, and flamboyant. Forza Imperiale.

No access to this beer on this side of the pond, so cheers to claaark13 for sending one over.

From a bomber into a snifter
Imperial coffee stout

APPEARANCE: Started to foam up the neck upon opening, but slowly settled. Pours out thick black and yields a 1+ finger, looser, fizzy, mocha colored head with lousy retention. Fizzes down to a ring only. Black body with higher levels of carbonation evident. Looks mostly flat by the end with no real lacing or ring. Good color again, but lousy head.

SMELL: Roasted grain, coffee, vanilla cream and chocolate on the nose. Sweet cream and milk notes as well. Pretty nice really.

TASTE: Roasted coffee beans and sweet milky cream up front. Vanilla and caramel sweetness through the middle into the swallow as well. Bold finish of sweet cream, vanilla, milk chocolate, caramel, with some roasted grains and bitter coffee for sure. Very flavorful and enjoyable.

PALATE: Medium-full body with medium levels of carbonation. Creamy on the palate, goes down smooth and finishes slightly mouth coating. Enough weight and creamy as well. Good.

OVERALL: Was a little worried when it started to foam upon opening, but this one turned out solid. Wasn't as impressed with it as I was with Even More Jesus, but certainly one I would have again if offered. Lots of sweet milky and caramel flavors here, working well with the roasted and bitter coffee flavors. Thanks again Claaark13. Recommended.

Poured from a 22oz. bomber into a pint glass.

A: Just like most stouts dark black with a thin ring of mocha head.

S: Could smell the malt characters and coffee

T: Sweat... very very very sweet. Over-powering to my palate. I love coffee forward but the sweetness in this was off putting.

M: Smooth but a bit thin.

O: Great to try but too sweet for my tastes.

500ml bottle served in a snifter glass.

A: Pours a deep black color. Creamy and oily. Forms a small and very creamy and thin bubbled beige to brown head. Small retention and some spotty lacings formed and left in the glass. Some brown chunks can be see floating on the bottom of the glass, mainly in the last pours

S: Traditional Imperial Stout in the nose: Strong notes of roasted malts, chocolate malts, coffee beans, licorice, brown bread, brown sugar, vanilla and oak. Some notes of alcohol in the very end. Sweet and balanced

T: Follows the notes: Sweet upfront. Strong notes of roasted malts, chocolate malts, dark chocolate, coffee, brown sugar, brown bread. Yeasts are quite bready. Hops are grassy. Good bitterness in the end (roasted and hoppy). In overall, a smooth and balanced bittersweet taste

M: Heavy, creamy and molasses body. Sweet and bready upfront. Bitter roasted aftertaste

O: Great drinkability. Excellent Imperial Stout. Smooth and pleasant. Masterpiece

Bottle. Pours black with thick head. Aromas is vanilla, coffee, caramel. Taste is heavy on the vanilla, the coffee fades to a background note. Nicely balanced sweetness (marzipan?) in a heavy stout. Balances sweetness with the bitter coffee notes just perfectly.

Can’t wait to try the BA version.

Pours opaque black with 1/4 of brown head that quickly fades to absolutely nothing.

Smell is of the darkest, most decadent chocolate, black coffee with a hint of vanilla. Like a big, chewy, sticky, black, fudge brownie.

Taste is black coffee up front with dark chocolate and some vanilla on the back end. Just a hint of alcohol bite.

Mouthfeel is thick and heavy bodied with almost no carbonation.

As advertised: a delicious chocolatey coffee break with some pop. Impressive.
