Notes/Commercial Description:
The Roman Empire had a certain "je ne sais quoi" - festive food culture, extravagant architecture, and spectacular live entertainment. Some might argue the Emperors were brutal, mad, and hungry for power, and the people vain when taking baths and working out all day. Listen - that's still all part of the secret Imperial ingredient - keep it cool, clean, confident, arrogant, and flamboyant. Forza Imperiale.

Evil Twin Brewing - Evil Twin Imperial Biscotti Break, poured into a Craftgeer snifter.

Look - Pours a dark brown-black oil with a one inch mocha almost ruby-tinged head that dissipates quickly. Great lacing.

Smell - Coffee, cola, and rich chocolate over gently roasted malts.

Taste - Rich, velvety, and creamy chocolate. Coffee and roasted malt. Ends slightly bitter roasted malt. Delicious.

Mouthfeel - Sits roasted malt and throat warm boozy. Full-bodied with medium carbonation. Great drinkability.

Overall - This brew is amazing, the cherry one was perfect but not everyone would agree, some wanted it sweeter. This one is a little hotter but still I would 100% recommend this brew and Evil Twin in general, I'm liking their thinking so far!

Evil Twin's Imperial Biscotti Break, poured into my Beer Geek Nation tulip. I've been waiting a long time to get my hands on a bottle of this to review it.

Appearance (4.25/5): Jet black with a minimal head.ega alcohol legs. Creamy tan head.

Smell (4.75/5): Tons of espresso, cocoa, milk chocolate, a light amount of alcohol heat. Extremely pungent.

Taste (4.75/5): Little bitterness for a coffee infused stout; smooth and round flavors of espresso bean and creamy milk chocolate. Almond, vanilla, biscotti. Unusual for a stout. Miraculously, no alcohol presence to remark on. Not overly sweet or roasty, though it definitely leans toward the sweet side of the stout flavor spectrum; extremely well-balanced despite the strength of the beer and the intense ingredients. Extremely consistent flavor. Not highly complex. But the flavor I am getting is unique to this beer. Just EPIC. And the flavor gets better as it warms.

Mouthfeel (5/5): You look up "smooth" in the dictionary and you'll find a picture of Imperial Biscotti Break right next to it. This beer is velvety smooth, despite its thick, full-bodied mouthfeel. Light carbonation as expected for a beer this big. Absolutely perfect feel for a massive imperial stout. Surprisingly easy to drink.

Overall (4.75): This is one of those epic stouts that has to had to be believed. It packs tons of chocolate and coffee goodness with unique almond/vanilla biscotti bar undertones. It isn't the most aggressive stout; nor is it the most coffee-forward stout. But it might be the most well-balanced sweet stout I've ever had. A great stout that I think cracks my top 5–behind Founders KBS and Mikkeller Beer Geek Brunch Weasel, but ahead of Founders Breakfast Stout and Southern Tier Creme Brulee. Great stuff. See it, buy it. It's worth the $15-plus you'll likely have to pay for a 22 ounce bottle.

22oz bottle poured into a large snifter.

A: Black on the pour with a dark brown head. Retention is good, and a quarter inch cap stays. Lacing is small and spotty.

S: Simply put, this really does smell like a biscotti dunked in coffee. Layered chocolate and coffee aromas. Semi sweet dark chocolate, hazelnut, vanilla bean, Coffee with cream and sugar. Somewhat cake-y. Slight acrid roasted malt component is buried deeply within. Wafts of raspberry ester are likewise hidden. Only the slightest hint of alcohol. Great.

T: Coffee with cream and sugar. Semi sweet dark chocolate. Nutty. Brown cocoa. Dry cake. Hints of wood and char. Vanilla bean. Berry esters come out a bit more than the nose let on, but they are still tightly contained within the more robust malt flavors. Very long finish of cake, chocolate, coffee beans, and a kiss of smoke.

M: Thick body. Very velvety and creamy. Low carbonation creates only a mild prickling sensation. Some soothing alcohol warmth.

O: Excellent stuff. This beer is right in my wheelhouse. Big, bold, and complex. Seamless integration of complementary flavors. Supremely easy to drink for a beer of its size. Do not hesitate to snag a bottle should it cross your path.

2013 bomber
served in a Widmer Brothers Snifter
A - Jet black with a khaki foamy head with minimal lacing.

S - Coffee, cookie dough, chocolate, almond and vanilla. Essentially a Biscotti

T - Taste is super smooth tasting much like the smell. Alcohol is extremely well hidden. Exceedingly sweet and the coffee flavors build as it warms.

M - Medium to full bodied with low carbonation.

O - Overall a very solid beer but I would not put it into my top 15-20 in stouts.

Don't think aging will do too much for this one.

Pitch black and completely opaque without even the slightest bit of lighter color.   Two finger, dark mocha head that has good retention, only slowly settling into a thick, lasting ring.  Splotches of soapy lacing left behind.  Looks great!

Deeply roasted dark malt aroma with perfectly roasted gourmet coffee beans, lactic cream, silky chocolate malt notes and subtle English biscuit/cookie in there.  Deep roast but not acrid or burnt smelling with hints of charred toast, oatmeal, dark choose and espresso bean followed by bakers chocolate, caramel, toffee, lactic cream and biscuit.

Full bodied and viscous with deeply roasted coffee bean and dark malt flavor.  Dry and pretty bitter but never acrid or harsh wih lots of lactose and silky chocolate malt sweetness countering the roast.  Excellent espresso bean flavor along with burnt toast, oatmeal and dark cacoa powder.  Lactic cream toward the finish smoothing things out along with silky chocolate, fudge, bakers chocolate, toffee and caramel.  Very complex and I can even pick up hints of licorice, English biscuit and dark fruit as it warms.  Decent heat but the ABV is well masked making this beer very easy to drink.   There's a really great  balance of roasted coffee and sweeter dessert-like notes which also help drinkability.  Another impressive beer from Evil Twin.
