The Roman Empire had a certain "je ne sais quoi" - festive food culture, extravagant architecture, and spectacular live entertainment. Some might argue the Emperors were brutal, mad, and hungry for power, and the people vain when taking baths and working out all day. Listen - that's still all part of the secret Imperial ingredient - keep it cool, clean, confident, arrogant, and flamboyant. Forza Imperiale.

Delicious! The chocolate notes rule the aftertaste. Never bitter, so smooth, easy drink. Had this after the Prairie Bomb! (which was amazing), and I have to say this was a much smoother drink. The aroma alone sends that message. I started slow, expecting a bitter finish like many other coffee stouts, but this just stayed sweet and smokey. Definitely getting this one again.

Thanks to dujayhawk for this particular bottle! Reviewed from notes. Poured from bomber into a Tampa Bay Brewing Company snifter.

A: Very dark brown, opaque, with a tan thin ring of foam and low visible carbonation.

S: Sweet roasted malts, coffee, lactose creaminess, pipe tobacco and cacao.

T: Follows the nose well - flavors of coffee and lactose, with dark roasted malts with less bitterness than expected, sweet leather, a touch of vanilla, some tobacco, and maybe some almond nuttiness (though that could be the power of suggestion). Hang is mostly residual sweetness from the malt bill.

M: Full-bodied but not really thick. Sticky mouthfeel, fairly low carbonation sensation, and the fairly hefty ABV is well-hidden.

O: I thought this was pretty good, and a surprisingly easy drinking beer for a big stout. Not perhaps a personal favorite, but still definitely worth a try.
