Poured from a bottle into a Stone IRS snifter. The pour is viscous, opaque, and as black as night with about a finger of dark brown head that, while thin (despite a rough pour), does have good retention. Really rich nose with lots of charred fruit, bakers chocolate, coffee, burnt cake, and some boozy notes.
Wow! Intense IRS flavors and super creamy feel. Up front are lots of rich malty flavors of toffee, molasses, and fudge. Roastiness comes in with charred notes, dark fruit, and espresso beans and adds complexity. So far, it's a run-of-the-mill top-shelf RIS, but on the back of the palate the creamy feel just goes to a whole other level and you are hit with flavors of milk chocolate and sweet cream. They play off on the roasty notes and soften the flavors and hide the booze in a manner one rarely finds in this style. All of the aforementioned flavors are left dripping from the roof of our mouth on finishing, with a hint of alcohol warmth.
A spectacular beer, especially for fans of Russian Imperial Stouts who sometimes feel like they've tasted 'em all. I have been thoroughly impressed with all of the "Jesus" beers I've had from Evil Twin. Not only is this one no exception, it might be the best of the bunch.
