Look: It has the motor-oil look of a heavy, boozy stout, and dark khaki head. Nice lacing.
Smell: At first, it's has a slightly bitter smell, but a chocolatey sweetness soon dominates. Almost smells like a milk stout.
Taste: Deliciously sweet, just on the edge of cloying. Hints of coffee-like bitterness and... blueberries? I feel like I'm getting more blueberry flavor from this than I did from Evil Twin's "From Amager with Love," which was supposed to be a blueberry stout.
Feel: Solid, not quite chewy.
Overall: If I didn't know better, I might think this one had been barrel-aged. Quite good.

Tremendous Porter here.

This seems almost like a barleywine with the high ABV, thick syrupy mouthfeel with low carbonation, and deep rich flavors with heavy candied sweetness. Not too much aroma as compared with the assertive taste, but still a nice aroma with what is there. Lover the thick syrupy composition. The taste of this beer is so complex with such intense flavors.

Awesome beer.

Bottled on 7/26/2013. Pours incredibly dark chestnut, looks like ink; completely opaque in the glass with a fluffy, thick mocha colored head. Big notes of brownie batter, dark fudge, bitter roast, espresso, phenol fruit esters, molasses. Full body with a beautiful balance between sweetness and bitterness. There's a warming sensation on its way down, but the alcohol heat has almost completely subsided. Flavor is a mix of rich, chocolate desserts. Devil's cake, bittersweet chocolate, cocoa powder, cherry cordial, fig, vanilla, licorice, caramelized sugar sweetness, with some earthy tones. One of my favorites from Evil Twin.

Dark brown with a fizzy dark tan froth. Smells of currant, plum and black licorice. Tastes of plum and black grape with a milk chocolate core, burnt sugar, faint vinegar and a dash of pine for good measure. Heavy in body with a soft and inviting finish and a lingering alcohol warmth before a fleeting plastic annoyance is noticed.

ET's prices can become problematic, but sometimes they are well worth it, as evidenced by Lil' B.

Pours an opaque, thick looking, and jet black color. Tiny lace quickly dissipates. Intense aroma; cherries, chocolate, coffee, dark fruits, licorice and alcohol. Sweet, full bodied, vinous, and alcoholic, perhaps slightly too boozy. Very low carbonation. Some roasted malt and coffee like elements. Sweet and boozy finish, feels a bit like a kahlua. Certainly an interesting and complex brew that at 11.5% ABV will certainly give you a nice warm feeling. Yes it's enjoyable but based on the scores here, in my opinion, the perhaps over the top booziness makes me rate it slightly lower than many posters. I will be willing to try again.

Pours a thin tan head on a black body.
The aroma is subtle and complex: licorice, burnt wood, honey, roasted malt, coffee, molasses and dark chocolate.
The taste starts with mild cocoa sweetness, a little coffee bitterness, then more sweetness and cream.
The texture is soft and smooth.
Excellently balanced flavors. Too easy to drink for the ABV.

From bottle to snifter. Aged 1 year 3 months.

Pours a viscous liquid black with a minimal light brown head that quickly dissipates. Full on alcohol legs. Almost intimidating at first...

The smell on this brew is intoxicating by itself. Starting with full force dark roast espresso it then mellows ,as it warms, into a strong chocolate laced coffee like aspect with a assertive booziness tying it all together.

The taste is surprisingly smooth and balanced. Incorporates all the aroma characters with hints of date and sweet stone fruits in the background. Alcohol is subtle only lurking in the darkness.

The mouthfeel is amazingly smooth. The sweetness isn't cloying. The finish is delicious and entices another drink.

Overall this a a top notch brew in my book! I have had this before a few months old, and it's great then 2, but am very happy with the result of a year+ worth of aging. Highly recommend stashing one or two of these in the cellar for at least a year or more. Fantastically excellent. Cheers!

Poured into a chalice at Brasserie V.

L: Very, very limited head. Practically none. Black with violet edges.

S: Blackberries, and my friend smells coffee (which I don't).

T: Like chocolate grape juice. A bit too much for me. Sugary as hell. Like Welche's.

F: Again, it's like Welche's grape juice. Weird.

O: I get it, but it's too much for me. I don't get the beer, just the sugar.

Such a fantastic beer. Drinks more like a heavier stout and pours with a beautiful tan head with nice lacing throughout the drink. Lots of chocolate and vanilla on the nose. It drinks almost like it's barrel aged. Good stuff.

Serving Type: Bottle
Consumed: 9.13.15

A: 4.5 Pours pitch black with a small, tan head. The head doesn’t last long and leaves very little lace.

S: 4.25 Aromas are only okay when the beer is cold, but around 60 degrees things really open up. Lots of chocolate, vanilla, roasted malt, dark coffee, and liquorish. Unfortunately, there’s a bit of soy sauce on the nose, but it’s very mild.

T: 4.25 Taste follows the nose very closely. Starts off a bit sweet, then moves to strong, roasted malt, marshmallow, vanilla, and chocolate. Like the nose, there’s a bit of soy sauce, but the roast and sweetness from the malt cover it quite well. Finish is more dark chocolate, some maple syrup, and light bitterness.

M: 4.5 Rich and thick body with great carbonation. The bitterness adds a bit too much of a dry finish for the style.

O: 4.25 Evil Twin’s stout game is great and Lil’ B is no exception. I remember previous bottles being a bit better, so at a year old, it may be slightly oxidized or past it’s prime. Overall, I prefer I Love You With My Stout, but this is a great alternative.

A Dogfish Head Fisheye Pint Glass fills with luscious dark chocolate brown beer with garnet highlights (SRM 25-27). A thick pancake batter head occupies the top 2” void before condescending to its mortality, leaving a thick coating of lacework as a memory of its once grand state.

Rich bittersweet chocolate with deep roasted malt and sweet coffee is a siren call for the olfactory. Dark fruit of plum, raisin, and fig greet one upon entry, while pumpernickel settles in for a comforting stretch. As the visit draws onward warmth brings out qualities of sherry.

This temptress is enticingly bitter, with backhanded sweetness. Baker’s chocolate gives way to sweet plumb pudding, which builds with each sip, culminating in a crescendo through the finish. Upon reflection and warmth, one will find light smoke and oatmeal with maple syrup.

A voluptuous body and velvety texture moderate the prickly carbonation, while the alcohol warms just short of hot. One is left with a building syrupy residue with each sip.

This should be shared with deep conversation and thick cigar smoke. But I imagine it would also be well suited as a topping for ice cream.

WOW is this really a porter??? Poured into a snifter. Takes a bit for the head to be produced. carbonates upwards through half the glass into a half finger head after a medium/aggressive pour. beautiful look. dark and opaque. smells immediately of coconut along with some mocha/coffee n a bit of booze. taste is similar to the smell with nutty roasted malts. THE THICKEST porter ive ever had. blown away. Will search for this again.

A: Pours a deep brown/black with a two finger root beer brown head. The head breaks rather quickly and there is just a touch of lacing left behind.

S: Dark chocolate, roasted malts, some anise, and you can definitely pick up some alcohol as well.

T: The roast malts come forward, followed by strong anise and mild chocolate. The beer is sweet, but there is a bitter finish at the end. Almost no hops presence.

M: Very smooth. Full feel with moderate carbonation. The alcohol is minimally present.

O: A nice imperial porter. Definitely a sipper because of the high ABV, but I would love to have it again. I would be afraid to let this one sit too long though, as I would expect it would only grow sweeter as it ages and it was already leaning toward the sweet side.

Pours jet black with a short-lived mocha head. Not much on the nose; warm, nutty roast. Then you take a sip.

The slight aromatics give way to an incredibly sweet, deep, potently delicious imperial porter. Its 11.5% ABV is hidden well among thick chocolate and cascading malts. Quite approachable, and infinitely drinkable.

Pretty standard but pleasing-looking dark imperial beer; motor-oil black with some ruby red around the edges and very minimal head.

The nose incredibly sweet - mostly molasses and dark fruits such as figs/plums and overripe berries. There's a detectable alcohol presence as well, but it isn't flagrant by any means.

Impressively sweet taste; everything hinted at in the nose is delivered with even more intensity. The beer tastes like dark fruits smothered in molasses and brown sugar, and though it's by far the sweetest darker beer I've ever had, it's somehow not overly-cloying.

The mouthfeel is medium-heavy thick. The sweetness paired with a bit of an alcohol burn definitely renders this one a sipper, but the taste lingers for a while so it's not at all a hindrance.

Overall an excellent beer, and probably my favorite yet from Evil Twin (even over Imperial Biscotti Break and its several iterations). This beer made me think of the brilliant Firestone Walker's Parabola if it hadn't been bourbon barrel-aged. Relish this one!

One of my 5 best beers of all time. Can't tell you how many times I've recommended it even to servers at World of Beers (I am a member and have visited 17 WOB'S) who have never heard of it. Not easy to find but when you do BUY IT!!!! My first one WAS at a WOB and was a recommendation by one of there very informed bar guys.

Pours dark black with a one finger mocha head, with very good retention. The aroma has cocoa, chocolate, dark fruit, and black licorice.

Tastes exactly like it smells. Sweet with some bitterness for balance. There is no taste of alcohol, which is very impressive for an 11.5 % abv beer.

Medium to full bodied with moderate carbonation. Well worth buying again.

A sweet malt-bomb of a beer, the thick-and-creamy mouthfeel are totally devoid of alcohol flavor; deliciously sweet and smooth, especially considering its high ABV.

Black with brown head, medium, doesnt retain.

Smells of dense roasted malt and bubblegum.

Easily the sweetest porter I've had. Feel like I'll finish this with sugar between my teeth. Hops are undetectable, IMO. Rich, which is the right route, but not complex; finish is lacking. Like a fig covered in powdered sugar. Love a superlative beer but this is too odd an approach.

Carbonation's fitting.

Pours a dark brown with reddish highlights that simulate a whisp of a head. The aroma entices you with rich chocolate and roasty malts. The taste, however, brings in dark cherries and plum to blend with the chocolate and malt. There's a touch of alcohol, but it's not boozy. Creamy thick mouth. This definitely goes to the top of my favorite porters.

probably my favorite porter? to date. definitely the strongest and most robust.
very malt forward, sweet, roasted chocolate malts, nutty barley flavors with some dark fruit thrown in. dates/fig, black cherry, mulberry? pours a dark mahogany with an almost reddish purple head (what? trust me)
real malty, balanced with just the right hops and fruit. and a little funky to boot. it's nice.
imperial it certainly is. one and done.
will be recommending this as a fine porter from here on out.
dig it.

This pours an almost black brown with a thick tan head that lingers for a while. The nose is actually quite sweet. There is some dark fruit, plum fig and a roasted coffee on the edges. The taste leads with much the same. That dark fruit is surrounded by sweet malts, chocolate and roasted nuts and coffee. There is some alcohol heat that is to be expected at 11.5% ABV, but it isn't overpowering. The mouthfeel is quite creamy along with a crisp carbonation that finishes quite well. Really enjoyed this beer.

Amazing porter. Pours a dark chocolate brown, almost black. Medium brown 1 inch head that lasts. Sweet coffee scent with hints of vanilla and molasses. Light carbonation danced in my mouth but didn't feel the high ABV which was a nice surprise despite the bourbony taste. I'm a sucker for sweet porters so I really enjoyed this one. Having said that, I found the sweetness was well balanced. Overall a delicious beer. Perfect after dinner.
