Poured with a light yellow hue and I fizzy thick head. Smells like piney resins, oily and sappy, with some lemon and hop lupilin. The flavors are resiny pine, hop oils, herbal and tart. I got little to no malt flavor in this. The feel sucks the very moisture from your entire mouth and is painfully astringent. Not my favorite.

A: Pours a clear, glowing gold with a fluffy white head.

S: Aromas of caramel, biscuit, minerals, grass, lemon, lime, white peach, apricot, and tangerine take a little time to express themselves on the nose.

T: Notes of caramel, biscuit, minerals, crackers, grass, lemon, lime, apricot, white peach, bitter orange, and tangerine fill the mouth. The finish is hoppy, yet pleasant with subdued flavors of lemon, lime, bitter orange, tangerine, and apricot underscored by notes of biscuit and minerals.

M: On the lighter side of medium and dry. Carbonation is crisp, firm, and prickly. I could see this ale being very easy to drink on a hot day.

O: A near great APA. Very unique for the style, this ale displays some serious hop aromas and flavors. Recommended.

Apparently Evil Twin has been brewing Hipster Ales neighborhoods around the world they deem hipster enough. Some of them are different than the original – Sønderho, Denmark’s Sønderho Hipster Ale was dry-hopped and barrel-aged, for instance – so I’m not sure if this generic variant is different. I’m guessing they just slap on the “[City Name] Hipster Ale” label for some of their releases in certain areas, but just to be sure, here’s Evil Twin’s canned, geographically-indistinct Hipster Ale. Cheers!

A: Pours soft, a pillowy head of pure white stretching out over the body like foamed milk. Lacing sticks to the glass in sheets. Slightly hazy golden body.

S: Mild saison-like nose: phenolic, doughy yeast, black pepper hops, and a hint of wildflower. Twirl it a bit and dough comes to the forefront, laced with Band-Aid, chalk, and white wine notes. Interesting.

T&M: Laying flat over the tongue with noticeable heft and a dense, frothy carbonation, the body fills out with flavors similar to the nose: a creamy, doughy bread character, biscuit, flint, slightly medicinal yeast, buttered roll. If I were brewing a pale ale, this is the base I’d want; it’s satisfying all on its own. Crisp hops soon after, sprinkling in grapefruit and lemon rind flavors before coming to a peppery snap of a conclusion. That’s the aftertaste, a dry crispness with a spiciness that sits on the tongue for quite some time.

O: This is everything I want from a pale ale: a malt and yeast backbone with great flavor (i.e., a grain bill that’s not just a bed of residual sugar and body to balance the hops and yeast that has anything but a neutral taste) and an interesting hop character that adds a spice that’s both flavorful and drinkable. I didn’t see how much a six-pack was, but if it’s less than $11, I’ll be buying this until it runs out. I love this beer.

A: Golden, slight copper

S: Beautiful, citrusy, pasionfruity awesome smell

T: Same in the flavour, big citrusy hops almost get some apricot as well

M: On the thinner side but for an APA it is quite pleasing

O: Really don't see why this is rated so low, such a great drop on tap. Never had it out of a can so might have to do a comparison, but on-tap it's a cracker imo.

Poured from a 12 oz. can into a tall pint glass. Canned on 01/29/14.

Appearance: Pours a bright golden orange with a lot of rising bubbles. Big three finger off white head with decent retention. Leaves a good amount of lacing on the glass.

Smell: A juicy, earthy, and crisp balanced aroma with good hints of citrus, grass, and grains. Earthy, floral, and herbal hop scent with hints of grass and slight pine. Citrus hop hints of orange, lemon, grapefruit, and mango. Bready pale malt backing with hints of grains, straw, cracker, yeast, and biscuit. Some sweet honey like hints as well. A pretty solid APA style aroma.

Taste: Like the aroma hints at, an earthy, juicy, and nicely grainy and crisp balanced Pale Ale taste with notes of citrus, grass, and grains. Upfront mix of floral and earthy hop notes along with some grass and pine. Citrus hop notes of orange peel, grapefruit, lemon, and mango. Solid balance of bready malt with notes of grains, cracker, straw, biscuit, and yeast along with some light honey like sweetness. A pretty solid taste.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with a moderate amount of carbonation. Crisp, juicy, and smooth. Finishes dry.

Overall: A very solid take on the American Pale Ale style. Good balance of earthy and citrus hops with some sweet malt.
