Dirty gold color--cloudy. Moderate head with lasting power. Leaves plenty of lumpy lace on the glass.

Plenty of smoke to the nose. Seems to be quite dry.

If you like smoke, you'll really love this beer. After the initial flavor of paler malts, the smoke completely takes over. The swallow features a strong medicinal flavor--a real shame. Full body, particularly for the pilsner style. Good carbonation.

A: The beer is clear dark yellow in color and has slight hints of visible carbonation. It poured with a short head consisting of large bubbles that quickly died down, leaving lacing on the surface and a collar around the edge of the glass.
S: Light to moderate aromas of smoked malts are present in the nose.
T: The taste is similar to the smell and has nice flavors of smoky malts (which linger through the finish) along with hints of underlying bready malts. It has a light amount of bitterness and hints of grassy hops.
M: It feels medium-bodied and a little clean on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: I found this beer to be very enjoyable and drinkable because the smoked flavors in the taste were not overpowering. This beer seems like it would pair well with barbecued food because it is clean and has some refreshing properties.

12 oz bottle, kolsch-type cylindrical glass

A – Light gold and very high effervescence. About 2-3 inches of foamy, craggy white head with long, long retention, similar to a traditional hefeweiss. Somewhat hazy, chill but appears to be unfiltered as well.

S – Bread dough, a mix of uncooked and freshly baked. Beechwood smoke is light to moderate, present but only one component of many, very nice complement to the other malts. Floral, somewhat spicy hops, are moderate to mildly assertive.

T – Bready, grainy malts, with spicy hops and touch of floral flavor. Hop bitterness is pronounced. Smoke flavor is pretty low in the mix, the majority of its impression coming from the aroma.

M – Very full-bodied for a pilsner, presumably from being unfiltered. Bitter up front and quite juicy. The bitterness lasts throughout and the finish ends up dry. Moderate to high carbonation, this one was a gusher but not necessarily in the mouthfeel once it settles down.

O – Pilsners are a dime a dozen, but quality pilsners are not. Even without the smoke component this is an interesting, flavorful, satisfying beer, standing out partly because it is unfiltered. The smoke adds additional complexity. Very good.

Bottled 2/10/14.

Pours a hazy yellow with a foamy orange-white head that settles to a film on top of the beer. A foamy lattice of lace coats the glass on the drink down. Smell is of malt, grain, citrus fruit, and slight smoke aromas. Taste is much the same with malt, citrus zest, and slight smoke flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of hop bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer with fairly subdued smoke qualities and an interesting citrus presence that I wasn't expecting.

The label says a smoked pilsner, that doesn't seem to fit this beer much.Poured into a becker a slight hazed honey color with a large blooming sticky white head that left multiple broken rings of lace as it settled into a frothy mass.Citrusy hops and mild toasted grain stand out most with the smoke being pretty faint.Quite dry on the palate with leafy and citric hops standing out mostly with faint smoke in the finish.A full bodied beer it goes down pretty easy.I like this beer,it's not alot like a pilsner in the flavor and aroma department, and it's not very smokey, still it's pretty damn good and great on a hot humid day like today.

There is some light smoke on the nose but it is not Schlenkerla or even Spezial intensity. Pours hazy gold under a 2” finely bubbled white foam collar. A very creamy palate with rich malt flavors, light smoke preceding a herbal, dry finish. Medium body and a very, fine soft carbonation that is short of prickly. Its a good beer but it could use a touch more smoke.

Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a tall pint glass. Bottled on 02/10/14.

Appearance: Pours a hazy straw golden orange with a lot of rising bubbles. Solid two fingers of white head with decent retention. Leaves a good amount of lacing.

Smell: A bready and earthy malt forward aroma with good hints of smoke and cracker. Pale malt with hints of grains, wheat, biscuit, straw, crackers, and yeast. Hints of smoke and wood that are noticeable but not overly strong. Earthy and floral hop presence with some hints of noble hops. Also some subtle citrus fruit hints of lemon and orange. A pretty interesting and solid aroma.

Taste: Like it smells, a bready and fairly earthy malt driven taste with good notes of smoke, biscuit, and cracker. Upfront pale malt with notes of biscuit, straw, grains, wheat, crackers, and yeast. Solid taste of smoke and wood notes that are nicely balanced with the pils flavor. Floral and earthy hops with some noble notes. Citrus fruit notes of lemon and orange. A pretty nice and interesting taste.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with a moderate amount of carbonation. Crisp, clean, and pretty smooth and drying.

Overall: A pretty solid twist on a Pilsener. The smoke adds an interesting kick without overwhelming the soft pils malt notes.

Poured into pilsener glass; clear golden in color with a nice fluffy white head. Picture perfect lager pour.
Smells of clear malt, grassy hops, and a hint of dry woody smoke.
Taste follows nose; dry crackly grass and hints of woody smoke intermingle with clean, crackery pilsener malt. Very drinkable.
Mouthfeel is light and semi-dry.
Overall, an interesting beer. I thought the smoke would come into play more, but it's well-balanced and tasty regardless. Evil Twin succeeds very well at making unique and surprising beers, while keeping them balanced and drinkable.

Pour like any normal light beer ... No really detectable aroma, nothing for the nose to pick up on.
The first taste and all I could feel is carbonation, a bit too much for my liking.
Then, I can taste smoke, lots of it. Now I know what it feels like to be a ham inside a smoker!
The smoked taste and the light carbonated style was very balanced for me.

Pours a half finger of head on a hazy straw body.
The aroma is smoked lemon, pretty nice.
The taste is a nice smoky lemon and pine bitterness.
The texture is crisp.
