Drank from an 11.2 fl. oz. bottle purchased at Liquor World, Cambridge, MA
Served in a snifter

Spectacular appearance. The viscous, pitch black, ominous looking liquid was capped by tight, creamy, bubbly, two-finger tall, mocha-colored plume. Amazing for any beer, never mind one that clocks in at 12% ABV. Tons of drippy lacing along the glass. The crown slowly dropped to a thick, bubbly mass of froth.

The aroma was solid. Some smoky, peaty notes were a bit of a surprise initially. Tons of deep, dark, charred malts. Quite ashy. Slight chalky yeast presence. Perhaps I had Scotch on my mind, but I also seemed to pick up some salty notes as well. Good dose of bakers chocolate. This reminded me a bit of burnt brownies. As the beer warmed, the nose turned sweeter. Brown sugar and raisins were noticeable.

Super roasty, charred malts dominated the flavor profile as well. Smoky. Peat smoked malts were apparent. Slightly salty. Hints of day-old espresso in the center. Somewhat woody as well. The finish was bitter and dry with subtle earthy hop notes. Like the nose, the flavor profile turned sweeter with time. Dark fruits were noticeable. Quite raisiny with a touch of brown sugar as well. Although not nearly as smoky or as peaty, I definitely saw similarities between this and Auld Yin, Evil Twin's Scotch barrel-aged imperial stout.

The mouthfeel was moderately thick and slick. Smooth on the palate with an ultra fine and mild carbonation. Almost a touch flat.

Flavor-wise, the most impressive aspect of Aún Más A Jesús was how well well it hid its high ABV. Although I can see many people liking this beer, it was far too ashy and bitter for my palate. Also, at $11 a bottle, there are numerous better options available.
