Portion of a 11.2 oz bottle into a Duvel tulip. From two day old notes.

A: Pours a pitch black color. It definitely has a good thickness coming out of the bottle. Sadly, there isn't much head at all...maybe a thin tan-colored film.

S: Very whiskey forward. I'm not sure it's barrel-aged - don't think so - but that tone is unmistakable here. Allowing it to open up will reveal chocolate, molasses, char, dark fruits, oak, and smoke. The aroma has good complexity, I must say.

T: The sweetish whiskey opening turns to a charred smokiness on the midtaste. The finish is fruity and chocolaty, with good length. My only real complaint is that it's not really complex, especially next to the aroma. Still, it's got superbly hidden alcohol and a very enjoyable flavor profile regardless.

M: The long finish is loaded with whiskey qualities, yet without any discernible heat. Certainly nothing to suggest it's 12%. Its thickness is medium, enough to give it good drinkability without feeling insubstantial, and the rounded, soft texture fits it flavor profile to a T.

O: A super-solid imperial stout that, by proxy, is the best Spanish beer I've ever had. Okay, it's the only one really, but are you gonna be the one to suggest that Estrella Damm is superior to this?

11.2 ounce bottle. Served in a DFH snifter, the beer pours dark brown/black with about a quarter inch tan head that fizzled away quickly. There's a good amount of lacing. Aroma is great, the brew smells like roasted malt, chocolate, molasses, and dark fruit. Taste is similar to the aroma, but there's also the addition of some vanilla, burnt/charred malt and some coffee. Nice mix of sweet and bitter flavors in this stout. Mouthfeel/body is full, it's thick and creamy with a moderate amount of carbonation. Pretty good stout, I wish it came in a bomber because the small bottle left me wanting more of this brew. $7.99 a bottle.

330 mL bottle poured into a snifter.

Appearance - Inky black. Not much head. Thin mocha collar. Glass staining. Great body.

Smell - Molasses and bucket of black patent malt. Definite alcohol presence. Slightly fruity.

Taste - Sweet and boozy up front. Less roast. More caramel. Sharp alcohol bite in the finish. Some chocolate and alcohol blended together in the finish.

Mouthfeel - Boozy. Medium bodied. Slightly acidic.

Overall - I remember enjoying Even More Jesus a lot more than this. Missing some of the roast I remember.

Poured into a Cigar City snifter at Tryst in Delray Beach, FL.

A- Pours a totally opaque black color with pretty much no head, just some light brown bubbles and a thin ring around the edge of the glass. Tiny specs of lacing stick to the glass.

S- Just all dark roast and some booze. There's also a faint hoppiness detected with some short, sharp sniffs.

T- Incredibly smooth considering the ABV with notes of milk chocolate, vanilla and molasses. Some char comes through as the beer warms. Definitely a sipper but it could be drunk quickly if one has a palate for high gravity stouts. The hops also start to show up as the temp rises.

M- Unexpectedly thin with low carbonation and a hefty body.

O- Very straightforward and certainly worth the $17 for an 11.2 oz bottle. Evil Twin's beers may be pricey, but damn are they great.

I allowed this beer 1/2 an hour warming from fridge temp.
The beer pours a motor oil black with a thin blanketing of dark tan head that fades into a thin halo with modest lacing. The nose is very potent and distinct of slightly roasty malts, ethanol, coffee, and bitter chocolate. Seriously, it has a very pungent nose. The taste is relatively malty and sweet upfront with a pleasantly roasty, boozy afterburn. Honestly, I can't say I've had many imperial stouts quite like this beer. The mouthfeel is thick and malty, sweet, with a slight bitter chocolate roastiness in the finish. Pungent, interesting flavors and a big ethanol burn make this an evening sipper. I'm glad to try this beer and think it provides a relatively distinct alternative to most american made imperial stouts...although at a price.
