A: The beer is black when viewed from afar but when held up to a bright light the beer is clear and very dark red in color with a moderate amount of carbonation. It poured with a short beige head that quickly died down, leaving a thin collar around the edge of the glass.
S: Light aromas of burnt malts and molasses are present in the nose.
T: Similar to the smell, the taste has flavors of burnt and roasted malts along with notes of molasses. There is a slight amount of bitterness and the flavors of molasses linger into the finish.
M: It feels medium-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: Considering its strength, this beer is quite drinkable as any traces of alcohol are very well hidden from the taste.

Brownish, thin appearance. No head or lacing.
Off smell, soy sauce, ugh.
The taste is similar to licking a dirty ashtray. (Well-traveled ex-smoker here...)
Thin, watery, bad.
I honestly wanted to like this, but it's too bad for that. A definite miss for a brewer with generally good recipes.
No, just no. Sorry.

Single 11.2 ounce bottle picked up at the Mall of the Bluffs Hyvee. I think I remember paying around $8 for this? Poured into a Blind Tiger Brewery snifter after letting it warm up for about 30 minutes.

Appearance: Poured straight down the middle no head was produced. Some bubble action on the sides, though. A very dark, just shy of black body. After coaxing out a very thin head the beer left some decent lacing on the sides of the glass. Despite being a huge beer I was still expecting more in the terms of head/retention.

Smell: Brown sugar, dark bitter chocolate, and a nice, sweet pruney nose. After it warmed up a bit some nice notes of coffee, chocolate cake frosting, caramel, and cream came up.

Taste: Smooth dark chocolate, brown sugar, stone fruit, medium roast coffee beans and cream. Finishes with a nice dark roasted malt note and some bitterness. I can only imagine how awesome this would smell out of a bourbon barrel with coffee added.

Mouthfeel: Low carbonation with a heavy, syrupy mouthfeel. Quite warming.

Overall: A big, warming, solid imperial stoutish beer. Not sure how the whole porter part works out, as this almost reminds me of Expedition stout. However, while it didn’t look like much it had a good nose and tasted great. Also it had a nice heavy mouthfeel which wasn’t boozy or rough but smooth and warming. While it’s not worth more than $5 a bottle, if someone offers you a pour I'd be willing to bet you'll enjoy it.

A - Pours a dark black with minimal head to it. Not much lacing or retention at all.

S - Not complex, but about what you'd expect to get out of a porter. For an "imperial" I was expecting a little more.

T - Roasted malts, dark fruits, char and licorice. A little heat to it as well.

M - Thin bodied and low carbonation. Really a let down here.

O - I've had better imperial porter offerings from the same brewery. Really a let down here.
