Evil Twin Jalapeno Imperial Biscotti Break
growler into a snifter
First keg ever produced, tapped at CBX today (5/14/13)

Evil Twin's Imperial Biscotti Break with fresh sliced Jalapenos added directly to the keg. A total of one keg was produced to date.

A: Pours jet black with just a sliver of dark mocha colored head which dissipates down quickly. Only the faintest patches of spotty lacing.

S: The aroma is stout flavors up front, which are quickly followed up by a big jalapeno pepper heat! Chocolate, fresh roasted coffee, cinnamon, and nutty aromas are all strongly present, but each sniff ends with a bold (but not overwhleming) jalapeno pop. Truly incredible.

T: The first sip is the familiarly delicious sweetness of Imperial Biscotti break. Dark chocolate, bold black coffee, roasted malt. Initially the jalapeno characters are much less prominent in the taste than was on the tongue, most notably with some mild heat on the finish. I also get an almond like nutty character and a hint of booze. Heat gently builds as I continue to drink, although its still more subtle than the nose implied, and its more of a peppery heat then a specific taste of jalapenos if that makes sense. Really great stuff.

M/D: Smooth, very low carbonation (may be the result of an only 3/4 filled growler, it was the very last of the keg), full bodied but not thick. ABV beutifully masked, and drinkability is absurd for a 12% ABV IS with peppers! Doesnt even make sense.

O: One of my all time favorite Imperial Stouts with jalapenos added, how could you go wrong with that? I dunno if you could, but they certainly didnt! Really wonderful beer here. I hope they produce more of this, or better yet bottle some! I was lucky I got to try this, thanks again to the guys at CBX for hooking me up once again!

This poured poured as a rich thick black color with a brown head on top. The retention is thin and the lacin scattered. The smell is peppery with a nice balanced roasted chocolate malt aroma. The taste is chocolatey with a nice tingle from the Jalapeño. The mouthfeel is creamy and silky smooth, it's thick and yet very drinkable. Overall this beer is very good in my opinion. I believe it's got a lot to offer to people who enjoy chili beers and imperial stouts. The burp has more hear than the initial swallow... Very interesting.

Big thanks goes out to the crew at The Charleston Beer Exchange for making this one happen! Shared with funkydelic and CManuel while CManuel was in town visiting for the day. Served from growler into an Ommegang chalice. Poured pitch black with a half finger tan head that subsided to a minimal amount quickly. Maintained nice lacing throughout the glass. The aroma was comprised of sweet malt, roasted malt, jalapeno, dark chocolate, earth, and spice. The flavor was of sweet malt, roasted malt, dark chocolate, jalapeno, earth, and spice. It had a medium feel on the palate with medium-high carbonation. Overall this was a pretty good brew. I have always been a big fan of this brew as most people I have encountered have felt the same. While being big and robust it was still quite sweet and maintained a great balance to it. Let’s not forget about the jalapeno. It is definitely there in the flavor with that nice flavor you would expect from fresh jalapenos. The heat was there, but not in an overpowering way that you would think when you see the name of the brew. A really nice variation of an already solid brew. Can’t wait to see what they have planned next!
