look: 2.5 | smell: 2.5 | taste: 3.5 | feel: 3.5 | overall: 3.5

Appearance: Poured with about a finger of head, which died to a scant ring in less than a minute. Golden yellow color. Very little lacing.

Smell: Light fruity scent. Malty.

Taste: Nice hops flavor, but not very bitter. Plenty of malt.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied. Not much carbonation. Sweetness from the malt dominates the aftertaste. A hint of the alcohol.

Overall: A pleasant quaff. I would try it again.

look: 2.5 | smell: 2.5 | taste: 3 | feel: 3 | overall: 3

Appearance: Light Copper with a white head that stayed for a few minutes.

Smell: Not much. "Metallic" and rather hoppy.

Taste: Slightly bitter / hoppy at first. Then it becomes quite sweet / malty and the sweetness dominates (even if not excessive).

Mouthfeel: Medium body, quite smooth, especially the first sips, with the head. Probably its best feature.

Drinkability: Fairly drinkable but it gets boring rather quick

Overall: It doesn't annoy but it also doesn't stand out in any way. Tolerable, but only for a couple of drinks / glasses.

Can into Grolsch pint glass in low altitude Galway, Ireland. Can acquired in an off-license in Cork, Ireland. Reviewed live.

A: Four finger head of decent cream, nice thickness, and great retention, particularly considering its 7.9% ABV. Clear darker yellow colour. Looks good.

Sm: Hops and barley. A mild strength scent. Slight cream. The alcohol doesn't come through.

T: Alcohol, an overabundance of brewer's sugar - some unfermented. The 'hop extract' mentioned on the can is pretty brutal on the palate, lads. I mean sweet bejaysus that's hideous. Terribly built as a beer, not to mention as a beer in this style. Balances its terrible notes equally - does that mean the balance is good?

Mf: Smooth and wet. Thankfully it avoids coarseness that would drag out the awful flavours.

Dr: 1.20 euro for a 500ml can of 7.9% beer is damn near unheard of in Ireland. If it wasn't so awful to bear, it might sell out in student-laden areas of Ireland. Avoid. Go with the 3 litre cider at tesco if you're looking to get bollocksed cheaply.

Funny how these beers nobody's ever heard of show up in the most random of places as if they were the most common beer in the world. Bought this from a corner grocery store in Shanghai. Never seen or heard of it before in my life, even in China, and yet here was a whole shelf of it. Have to give it a go.

A: Poured from the half liter can into a mug. The beer is a murky brown with a light and fluffy head that sticks around for an aright amount of time.

S: Some caramel malt and buttery toffee. Alcohol is evident. Not sure how this is going to go.

T: Alcohol content is very noticeable, as this one smacks you upside the head with an almost malt liquor kind of sweetness. A warming malt note follows that tells you it's ok to drink a bit more. That part's actually pretty good. Bitter note in the middle or sour fruit with a touch of yeast. But then a somewhat harsh finish.

Not sure what to think about this. Is it a cheap beer made to be strong and sold all over the place? Judging by the several languages all over the can maybe so. A malt liquor alternative. Not a big fan, but it was too interesting to pass up. Not worth it, aside from some variety in the every day Chinese beer selection and for never having seen it before.

Source/Serving: 500mL can.

S: Impressive amount of sweet breadiness, light honey. Hops are light and herbal, blending with the prominent alcohol reminiscent of Jagermeister syrupyness.

T: Not much smoother than expected for 7.9% and quite light in character. Fresh, dense lemon bread and indistinct syrupy malts up front. However, not overly sweet. In the middle there is a nasty, harsh bitter character that along with the clean alcohol make this fairly balanced. Malt character really fades away. Overall the impression is thin in both flavor and body. Finish shows the alcohol in a less than pleasing way, though not hot, with a medicinal hoppiness lingering.

Notes: I bought this in a Beijing supermarket not having any idea what it was. Its not the worst mass market high gravity brew I've tried and would be slightly palatable if not for the nasty bitter character.

.5L emptied into a Pokal.

A: Pours light copper with a fluffy 1-finger white head which slowly receeds to a thin ring. Good lacing throughout.

S: Grainy, light malt. Fruity sweetness, caramel. Mild hops.

M: Medium bodied with good carbonation.

T: Sweet, syrupy malt dominates. Grassy hops and lemon zest through the midrange. Alcohol is tucked nicely at the back. Dry finish with a slightly tannic aftertaste.

D: The alcohol is nicely hidden here, I was expecting a rougher experience, especially given that this only cost me 65 cents at Hofer. They really go down too easy to have such a high ABV. However, this is still a middling effort.

Poured into a beer jar from a pint can.

A-It poured a nice white and fluffy 2 finger head; it stuck around for a few minutes. A few streaks of lace left on the glass; an orange/copper color, with a light tan look. Carbonation present in the glass. Not bad for a mass produced German version of a Euro Strong Lager.

S-There wasn't too much in the smell; light grain and mild malt; slightly metallic upon the initial pour, but it went away pretty quickly. Perhaps it was because it needed to warm up just a little more.

T-The first sip was quite malt forward, zesty, boozy, syrupy, grainy, and with a hint of sweet mild malt. The aftertaste was dry and quite bitter. The bitterness from the hops lingered at the back of my throat throughout consumption. This beer really reminded me an English bitter/ESB. Overall, the taste was pretty bitter, which was quite nice. At times I tasted butterscotch in the aftertaste which, I think, was caused by the higher ABV and malt. Not sure.

M-Full-bodied, carbonation on the higher side; syrupy and sticky. Quite average.

I think this beer was boring to drink. It wasn't interesting enough for me as it seemed to be a pretty standard strong lager. It was worth trying out, especially because it is freezing cold outside and the higher ABV was somewhat warming.

Poured from a can to a .5L glass mug with only a 1 centimeter head. Put the can down, and as I turned back to look at the head retention, it had already dissipated. One second total. Chalked it up to possible soap residue on the glass, although doubtful.
Nose was mild malt, no noticeable hops, and I also noticed a slight metallic smell that one of the other reviewers mentioned. Not off-putting, but nothing noteworthy.
Initial taste was sweeter than expected, and too sweet for my taste, but I didn't feel it reached the extreme syrupy flavor some other reviewers noted. Lack of balance overall...needs some decent hops desperately.
Mouthfeel was medium, and there were no lingering off flavors in the finish.
Overall, not a good beer, but not bad enough to be straight-up bad.
