This old converted church was packed on a Sunday afternoon, seems fitting I suppose. Stood in line for 10 minutes but it was worth it for a decent IPA and a cider for the wife and the bartender knew what a pint was. A few hand pumps and 8ish taps, I didn't see a bottle list and it was to busy to bother asking. I had a Dead Good IPA, never heard of these guys but it was a tasty brew and I re-ordered it a couple times, my wife loved the cider she tried and stuck to her first choice as well. Bartender had a quick answer to my questions but they were stuck behind the bar and my empty glasses just started to pile up at my table, I didn't see an employee outside the bar for the few hours we were there. Outside in the court yard the madness inside seemed to be distant, the fact the it was fairly empty on a nice sunny day left me a little confused. Sitting amongst the limes and figs under the hop vines the courtyard was a nearly perfect place to have a pint. I filled half a pint with wet hops for fun but it had surprisingly good results. Our pints were under 10$ and that seemed pretty good for the beer I was drinking and NZ's not a cheap place to drink to begin with. I'm assuming there was a function going on inside because everyone was ballroom dancing down the aisle. It was just strange but other then getting a re-fill I avoided all the madness inside. Overall I'd go back here for sure, would've been nice if it wasn't so packed and loud indoors but the courtyard was a peaceful place for a pint.

It is in a church. That is OK. Lots of odd, depressing indy music. Not so good. One big Yurt outside for extra seating capacity. Interesting vibe but I am too old not hip to appreciate it.

Really average beers. 3 hand pumps and 6 taps. All supposed to be "real ale". More like real dull. Nothing over 6% and nothing with a lot of flavor either.

Service was solid. Lots of free tasters and willing to go over the top.

Some local beers and their house beers called dead good ales. UGH, not impressive at all.

Can bring in food or can order from other area places. Had Pizza from Stephano's. Was not bad and price was good. Several options to choose from.

Was OK. Better options in the Nelson area. A little odd for my taste and too darned indy for me
