Cloudy and orange/golden in color, First Street Ale has a nose that is one of sweet grain but little else. The white- colored foam on this beer is moderate and eventually fizzes out, leaving a small coating as you consume.

This beer features the taste of grains, including rice, along with some mild hops, a touch of honey, and biscuits. The body is creamy and the taste is generally crisp and refreshing. There is some metallic flavor present, but it only slightly distracts from the overall taste.

This beer was brewed as a tribute to No Label’s hometown of Katy, Texas and it is one of only a few craft beers to use rice as an ingredient. The reason is because rice has a long history with the city and the brewery was originally housed in some old rice dryers. The added rice might seem like an odd choice of ingredients, given its association with adjunct lagers, but it is actually not too bad in this instance.

First Street Ale is now a year- round beer so locals can enjoy it whenever they like. I don’t rank it among my favorite No Label products, but it is a good beer for warm weather or when in need of some simple refreshment.

12 oz bottle poured into pint glass.

A - Hazy yellow/gold, just under a finger of quickly dissipating white head.

S - The first thing I smell is metallic, with an underlying sweet smell of rice. Interesting aroma.

T - I was hoping it wouldn't taste like it smelled. The rice flavor is definitely there, but it has a metallic quality to it. This almost tastes like an adjunct lager, not a blonde ale. It gets a little better as it warms.

M - Light bodied, high carbonation. It's definitely crisp and refreshing.

O - I guess this is a good summer beer, but the metallic rice was an off putting flavor for me. I can't argue that it's not refreshing, though.

Light, clean, crisp taste with slightly sulfur aftertaste. It is not off-putting, though. Similar to a lager aftertaste. Not a bad beer but not one I would seek out. Good for bringing a 6 pack to a party and sharing. Good summer beer. Would be refreshing in hot weather.
