OK...beer heaven just got a little bit brighter. I'm in DeCicco's last Thursday night, about 30 minutes before close. I have the beer sections (fridged and otherwise) to myself and I'm loading up the cart with my BA "wants" list. $70 later, I wander towards the check out and make inquiry as to what is going in the cafe-like space to the right of the check out lines. "Oh, that's where the growler bar is going"....no friggin way! I blurt out. Is there a couch and a TV?! "Yes, sir, and a bathroom and you can purchase some food in the store (which is pretty much all gourmet) and you can sit in the cafe and drink your beer"...no friggin' way! I blurt out again...when can I move in???? Are they offering lap dances too? PLEASE send your business to this place and keep the dream alive...btw, I believe the growler bar opened this past weekend (2/12-2/13)

Update: Growler bar is now open as of April 1. I stopped by and filled up one of Captain's Kolsch, which I tried at the bar there. However, the Jamoke behind the counter failed on their CO system and "flattened" my entire growler. I was not happy, as Saturday was a sunny, somewhat summery, drinking day and I was looking forward to my Kolsch...damn...

Simply the greatest selection I've seen in NY and surrounding states. Close to 1,000 beers! Humungous aisle dedicated to just beer. You've got six packs, 12 packs, bombers, single 12oz bottles, growlers, and everything in between. Staff is very knowledgeable (especially Vinny, that guy is the man!) and are very generous. On multiple occasions I've been there and had employees share beers with me at the bar (shared a bottle of Lunch with one employee and he didn't ask for any money, and another employee shared a bottle of DFH 120 and didn't ask for money. Great people!) Prices are reasonable, and the beer is meticulously taken care of. These guys understand the value of a fresh IPA!

Highly recommended. I'm so happy I live 5 minutes from this place.

There's really not a lot to say to describe the place that hasn't been covered in prior reviews so I will turn to personal observations. DeCicco's Brewster has become my 'go to' beer store for both growlers and bottles/cans. Why? The growlers are pressure filled so not only do they keep in the fridge [I've kept some for up to 2 weeks] but when you open and pour a beer the experience is just as if it was poured from the tap. I have had many growlers that are simply filled from a tap like a glass would be and by the time you get them home and open them, even if you do it right away, the beer is somewhat flat. The bottle/can selection is second to none and even if the price may be $1 more, it's always fresh and refrigerated. In fact, I've requested a warm sixer when I didn't intend to drink it right away or want to cellar and there was never a problem. And finally, Andrew the bartender remembers that I'm a hophead and check to see what's on tap so that when I walk in he knows exactly what I want. Kinda like what Norm experienced at Cheers.
NOW IF THE DEPARTMENT STORES WOULD ONLY PUT IN BARS, SHOPPING FOR CLOTHES OR SHOES WITH THE WIFE WOULD BE SOMETHING I LOOK FORWARD TO JUST LIKE I LOOK FORWARD TO GROCERY SHOPPING NOW.

Had to do a review for this location after my visit last week. This is a great new addition for the CT/NY crowd.

The great thing about the Brewster location is the beer bar. Great selection of bottles, tap beer, and counter pressured growler fills. Found several other bottles behind the counter that are not on shelves anywhere in the area. Bartender was courteous and helpful.

The rest of the store is really more of a grocery store, with quite excellent prepared foods. The representative in the beer isle was very helpful, and there selection continues to grow.

While it is a bit pricey, you get what you pay for. Great service, great selection, and probably one of the best beer bars in the area.

If only this was closer to me =(

Short Review: Probably one of the best beer stores in the country.... and it has a beer tasting room to boot with great beers on tap to try.

Long Version:
For those not familiar with Decicco's they have ~10 locations in the NY Hudson Valley / Westchester area and all of them have a great beer selection, but this location is far and away the best of the 4 or 5 locations I've visited.

Bullet points of things I like about Decicco's Brewester:

They have over 1000 beers (all in coolers)

The tasting room has an ever changing tap list.... My estimate is 25% of the taps are turned over at least once per week.

Tap Takeovers and Special Events. 1st experience with a tap takeover was Founders about 2 years ago. They had KBS and CBS available to try. About a month ago they had 10+ taps of Evil Twin.

Staff Knowledge: The staff rotates between the tasting room and the coolers in the back so you'll run into them in both places and they are very knowlegable and make great recommendations.

Social Media: They regularly update their facebook with events and new products. Their beermenu tap list/growler fills is accurate 99% of the time.

It wouldn't be a proper review without a few areas for improvement:

Beermenus for the coolers is rarely updated and doesn't have half of what they have in the store. Realizing this is a huge amount of work... I'd recommend deleting it.

Some of their events use 1/2 barrels for the tastings and some of these take forever to turn over.... I know this probably isn't Decicco's fault because the staff seems to get aggravated with the long half barrel turnover as well.

Make a trip here. You won't be disappointed.

Side note - In the warmer months it's possible to take a Metro North train from NYC to Southeast Station and walk to Decicco's. ~2miles from station.

Cheers!

Great service as they employee people that know beer and great selection that is ever changing. Can follow beermenus / facebook to know what there tap selection is / what events are upcoming. Certainly enjoy that a lot of their selection you can buy by the bottle, and also plenty of 6/12 packs available too in their huge selection at back of the store. Their growler fills are very reasonable priced from what I have seen, wish I could stop by here more often. I like the fact that I can get 32oz to take home for the night of some excellent beers

Great place to try and buy beer. Great pizza. Great tap takeover events (actually hope they don't get any busier but I can't blame the crowd) A whole lot of great.

first of all - this is a gourmet-type grocery store, like balducci's, turco's and dean&deluca , on a grand scale, with a CRAFT BEER BAR !!! -
pressurized growler fills and beer by the glass ! - the selection changes frequently, a very impressive operation, soon to become the chain's flagship store - with exclusive bottles on the back bar for sale -NYC prices , but you get what you pay for here - a great place to go food shopping with the wife! -- outside the bar, in the store's beer aisle lies a fantastic selection - this place rocks!

I live 5 minutes from this place, its a (gourmet) grocery store with specialty items such as high end cheeses, meats, seafood etc.. as well as great beer, and a great selection of all that I have mentioned... it is also the size of a supermarket, give or take... not to mention there is a bar located in the store... yes... a bar in the store.... genius right... w/12 taps that change quite frequently ... what more can I say... give it a try, you won't be disappointed...

This DeCicco's is one of their ever expanding conquest to bring great food and beer to Putnam and Westchester Counties. Its an Italian Market...so the food is amazing. Being Italian myself, I am no stranger to great Italian food (and really bad Italian food)...the quality here is superb. The first DeCicco's in Jefferson Valley has been around for years. Im glad to see them doing well in this economy...anyway...

The beer selection here is un-matched in the area. They claim to have beer from like 40 countries or something like that, and I wouldnt challange it. They maintain a healthy stock of cold beer in a full length grocery isle cooler, and even a separate cooler for macro's (I like how they separate them..it keeps the guy buying the 18rack out of my way from deciding what to get). Opposite the cooler, they have a long grocery isle shelf (well its several shelves high) of specialty bottles. If you had a different beer from here every day, it would seriously take you years to try them all...
Go to beermenus.com for a list of the current stock (the website also have stock of their Ardsley Store and Pelham).

Each DeCiccos is a bit different, but this one had an actual bar. Yes a grocery store with a world class beer selection AND a bar! Constantly rotating taps, you can buy by the glass or growler to take home. They even host "tap takeovers" events.

This location has convenient parking, good location right off the highway, its exteremely clean, and I think its one of the biggest DeCiccos in the chain. You need to go here!

Like many others, the first time I went to this place, I was just expecting a high end market. I had heard about the beer selection at the Ardsley location, but was still skeptical. I was blown away by the selection, both in cooler and room temp, and that was before they installed the growler fill station/bar.

A: The atmosphere of the market is set up like an old Italian Market in a newer builing. The beer is in the back right corner, with about a dozen cooler doors and many shelves for the room temp beer. The bar/growler fill area is to the immediate left when you walk in, by the cash registers. They also have 2 large HD TV's (1 on each side of the bar) showing whatever sporting events are on. They will usually change the channels to whatever you want to watch, as well. MANY free samples of cheese set up throughout the building.

Q: The quality of the food on the hot bar is always top notch. Their pizza is pretty solid. The beers on draft always have clean lines.

S: The service in the bar is always top notch. Andrew, the barkeep, is very knowledgable and friendly, and will always give you a sample(s) of whatever beer(s) you would like to try. In the bottle department, workers will regularly go in the back to see if they have something you're looking for if it's not on the shelves.

S: The bottle selection blew me away the first time I went. They carry MANY things I can't get in CT, ie GI, Troeg's, Pretty Things, Founders. The bar gets great kegs on tap as well, from local, national, and international craft breweries. They recently had DFH Hell Hound on draft, as an example. They currently run 12 tap lines.

F: The food selections are off of a pay-per-pound hot/salad bar. They also have fresh pizza and soup. All of the above are fresh and great. Andrew will also often put out little snacks on the bar for patrons as well.

V: I find most things at DeCicco's to be fairly priced with a few rare exceptions. I would say that 90% of the time they are right on market value.
