Pours black SRM 36 with a thin white head that quickly dissipates to a ring.
Deep roasted malt is almost burnt. There is a hint of smoke followed by light chocolate and light black coffee.
Roasted malt upon opening is followed by modest chocolate. This beer lacks any smoke flavor until well warmed when a hint of ham comes along. The finish is modest and lightly bitter.
This porter has a light body with light carbonation, no alcohol presence, and a soft texture.
There is no real sense of smoke here, thought it does have a charred character.

Appearance: very dark, nearly opaque brown. Decent size tan head on the pour that mostly recedes. Some cola highlights around the edges when held to light.
Smell: cocoa, roasty malt. Slight whiff of smoke, not as much as expected.
Taste: much like the nose. Nicely blended. A slight spicy burn in the finish.
Overall: nice, nothing to blow your socks off but a nice, subtle, pleasant brew.

22 oz. bottle poured into a Founders snifter.
Appearance: Pours dark brown with a 1-inch beige head which dissipates after about a minute.
Smell: Roasted malt, bittersweet chocolate, smoke, burnt toast. Smoke is pretty balanced - not even close to overwhelming like many smoked beers can get, but I wouldn't call it subtle either. If anything I'd like a little more smoke.
Taste: Similar to the smell but a little watered down. Smoke, roasted malt, and not quite enough of either. I feel like either the base porter or the smoke needs to take over any neither one does - you're left with a pretty underwhelming smoked porter.
Mouthfeel: Comes off pretty thin. Medium carbonation level.
Overall: Decent but uninspiring.

Bottle purchased at CB Craft Brewers in Honeoye Falls, NY.
Pours a deep black, with a foamy, silky looking tan head that lasts for a while in my Lagunitas mason jar.
Smells include chocolate, roasted malt, and smoke.
The taste is similar. Nicely layered smokiness here, it doesn't overwhelm, only adds to the myriad other flavors. Some cocoa powder, roasted malt, vanilla, some toasty bread. Just awesome.
Medium bodied, silky smooth mouthfeel, very drinkable, no noticeable alcohol.
Another great offering from these dudes, they are probably the best brewery in Rochester.
