Voraciously hoppy and not overly bitter. The Kind brings enormous aroma and maximum flavor. It's like taking a walk through a pine forest and ending up at a citrus farm. This beer brings joy to the world, one sip at a time.

look: 4 | smell: 3.75 | taste: 4 | feel: 3.75 | overall: 3.75

Poured from a bottle into a plastic cup. Bottle date unknown.

LOOK: Hazy gold with a thin white head that leaves sheets of lacing.

SMELL: Grapefruit juice, orange zest, and flowers.

TASTE: Grapefruit juice, orange pith, toasty biscuits, faint pine needles. Lightly bitter resinous finish.

FEEL: Medium-bodied, well-carnbonated, slightly dry sticky finish.

Overall: A nice local IPA. For fans of very grapefruity IPAs. (429 characters)

I received The Kind IPA as an extra in a trade. I went in with rather low expectations and was pleasantly surprised. This is a very solid IPA and if I lived up in the area it was brewed, I could see it being my go-to shelf beer (IE, Sea Hag) (243 characters)

look: 3.5 | smell: 3.75 | taste: 3.75 | feel: 4 | overall: 3.75

Pours a light golden color with a chalk white head. No haze, not much lacing.

Smell is pine, resin, citrus, and and slight herbal/floral note.

Taste is crisp grapefruit, maybe some orange, fading into a nice lingering pine bitterness. Nice malt backbone accentuates the hops, but plays backseat to the nice crisp hops.

Mouthfeel is very nice. The malt gives it just enough body.

Overall, a good IPA. In a world of IPAs only a few can stand out unfortunately, and this one I feel like falls into the pack of great, but not extremely memorable IPAs. (551 characters)

Surprisingly weak. The hop is weak, flavor wasn't horrible but nothing special. Tasted like a cheap IPA to me. Three Heads has done better, but this beer was just weak in my opinion (181 characters)

Rochester NY and surrounding area is well populated, but not with great local beer. IMHO anything I've had from CB custom brewcrafters , is way boring. Not bad, just very middle of the road.

This IPA by 3 Heads Beer is brewed at CB, but is very very good.

Like its commercial description, very hoppy & not too bitter. It has some teeth in its hop profile and is quite a well balanced , but not at all boring. Tropical fruits, lemon zest, with a hint of overripe Australian quandong

Well done! The brewery is 10 minutes away, and if they have 3HB on tap, I'm going get a driver and go have a few sometime soon (617 characters)

Clear golden pour. Outstanding head volume and retention, world class lacing.

Nice nose of tropical hops (grapefruit, orange, mango) with a touch of pine over a light biscuit.

Barely light medium bodied with a smooth texture. Well carbonated with effervescence from the middle on.

The flavor profile is intense (hop flavor), a bit complex and reasonably balanced for a hop forward IPA. It begins with a burst of hop flavor, with pine in the forefront and the tropicals underneath. As it flows towards the middle, tropicals assume the forefront then yield to a nice herbal dankness. A mild grapefruit rind bitterness constitutes the middle over a subtle biscuit sweetness. The finish is a slow fade of grapefruit rind with a dank note. (742 characters)

Light golden with two finger white head. Nice lacing. Scent is subtle with tropical and citrus notes. Some floral hop aroma. Piney, resinous front end that evolves to citrus and earthy hop notes. Seems more carbonated than some IPAs, giving it a full mouth feel, almost tannic on the finish. Medium-full bodied. Really tasty brew. (330 characters)

12oz bottle poured into Spiegelau IPA glass. Pours a golden hue with two fingers of head and nice lacing. Scent is subtle; I pick up a faint tropical scent. Sandpaper texture feel. Taste is bitter from start to finish and a bit empty. Advertised as a journey from pine to citrus. The citrus finish didn't materialize for me. Just ok. (8.0) (339 characters)

Nice, light golden color. A little darker than a Hefe with great foamy head and clingy lacing. Aroma hits first with assorted citrus. Taste is ok......First hit has a touch of a metallic flavor, then it proceeds to some hops, a citrus. Overall, this beer tastes somewhat stale, not bad, but maybe like it is at the end of it's time. Overall, I can sense some balance and flavors that are pleasing, but just not fresh and hoppy like I would have expected. Carbonation is nice and this is a refreshing beer, though (512 characters)

Pours an opaque, bordering on clear, gold producing 2 fingers of frothy, white, moderately lasting head that leaves clumpy, frost like sheets & webs of lace. Aroma is thin for the style: delicate caramel malt, dough with likewise delicate pineapple, grapefruit, lemon & floral hop hints. Taste is more robust than the nose & less balanced being more sweet & malt forward & less hoppy even though it becomes nicely bitter in the finish. Sweet caramel malt forward backed by tropical fruit & citrus hops with floral hints in the background. Finishes bittersweet but transitions into a resinous bitter hop bite, with only a little peppery prickle becoming mostly dry, bitter & astringent in the aftertaste. Off balance of hop bitterness & malt sweetness for the style. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with moderate carbonation, slightly slick, dry & drawing aftertaste. (861 characters)

I receive this as a periodic holiday gift and enjoy it's piney taste and smell. I always sit and savor a pint of this. My only disappointment might be the color; but it certainly doesn't impact the great taste. (210 characters)

Live within an hour of Honeoye Falls where this stuff is brewed. Grabbed it at a local grocery store. I had one so far and am not so sure what to do with rest of my 6 pack. Please just stop rating beers 4 out of 5 stars because the letters IPA are on the bottle. Sorry if im being too harsh. Theres definitely better choices out there than this. (346 characters)

Cool artwork on bottle...hear a lot of good things about 3HB but haven't visited yet

A: urine color, finger of white head with good retention poured from bottle

S: dank and piney with a bright flash of citrusy hops

T: pine washed over with citrus. Big hop taste without any unwanted bitterness.

M: smooth, balanced for a big IPA with good carbonation and no lingering flavors

O: I've passed this beer over so many times for absolutely no reason. So glad I finally tried it. Solid IPA. Really digging all the 3HB stuff I've tried lately (545 characters)

Drank right from the bottle so no comment. Bottle has neat artwork.

subdued citrus and cracker malt.

Taste is nice citrus bite with a tough of earthy hops. A touch of bitterness. Malts less prevalent but tame the bitterness.

Liking the feel. Light to moderate with moderate carbonations. A touch dry. Nice.

Pretty good pock up here at a finger lakes resorts during a wedding. Nice IPA. (389 characters)

Notes are from 5/30

The Kind is a bright pale yellow in the outer parts with some clarity to it, getting hazier delving into the amber recesses. A very fluffy and thick cloud of off-white head rests easily on it at two fingers' height. Lace starts at the very top, forming some webbing and netting as the beer makes its way down the glass.
The nose is all about some dank, oily, resinous hops. This is piney, sure, but even more it's "sprucey." A balance of bready malts puts the hops in perspective.
As in the aroma, the hops put up some dank and resinous bitterness but, interestingly, it doesn't build up. Because of this, the bitterness seems to fall off at the end of every sip. Somewhat metallic and earthy tones conjure thoughts of English varietals.
Crisp and drying with moderate smoothness, the medium body ends up running a little thin. (848 characters)

A - Pours a golden amber with a one-finger foamy white head. Heavy sticky lacing.

S - Nice aroma of sweet malts, floral hops, and citrus.

T - Starts with a nice blend of sweet caramel malts and citrus ( orange & grapefruit). Mid-palate is when the piney hops take over. Finish has more earthy and piney hops leaving a lingering bitterness.

M - Medium bodied with medium carbonation. Smooth creamy mouthfeel.

O - A pretty good IPA. Definetly for fans of aggressive IPAs. (474 characters)

An overly hopped IPA, however not too bitter and has a wonderful citrus note, almost fruity. The carbonation is just right for such a strong IPA.

The percentage at 6.8 and 76 IBUs is just enough for my personal taste. It is wonderful on tap, you really get the full body of fruity aromas and when poured out of a bottle it retains it's body just as well as on tap.

I have personally met the brewers and yes, they do look just like the picture on the bottle and are just as cool in person. Great IPA (502 characters)

Great easy drinking beer. Has the hop aroma I look for in a good IPA, nice citrus fruit on the front leading into a very nice mouthfeel of malt with a final kick of hops on the back end. Bought this from my bottle shop for $3.29 a 12oz, Going back to pick up a four pack now. Definitely a repeat purchase! (305 characters)

Fairly thin head, no more than half a finger which does not have much retention, in turn the lacing is weak with minimal stick. Filmy liquid, translucent, traps light inside to create a glow to the base yellow color, touch deeper orange at the core, you can see a tiny bit of bubbles, no noticeable particulate inside. The nose is kind of arch, bitter and grassy, very hops dominated, pepper, sour bread crust, dried grapefruit rinds, conjures up sufficient honey, pine sap and caramel to take a lot of sting out of it, more grainy than fruity, moderate dash of apricot, peach, pear fruit, on the whole it covers what it needs to, could be cleaner/fresher as well as separate out the scents better. Full-bodied, getting on heavy, the carbonation has a grinding, slow churn and it basically clings to the mouth pores rather than scrub. More sweetness here in the pineapple, peach, nectarine fruit as well as grapefruit, orange citrus. However, its dry mouth feel is complete. Plenty of grassy hops, the pepper, oil, and bread crust keep the malt, cocoa submerged. It is not unbalanced, simply too dense to refresh. Has flavor, not hot, and what’s there finishes long. No real complaints, maybe gets lost in the pack. (1,217 characters)

No freshness dating

Pours a semi-hazed honey color with crazy pearl colored head ( 5 fingers+ ). Haze never clears, crazy head retention & lacing

S: Straw, hay, doughyness, hints of infection

T: Pears, grassiness, lemons & green appleskins up front. Lemons, hay & pears as this warms, a little pineapple as well. Finishes slightly citrusy & acidic with some grassiness, just got messier & ended up being a drainpour

MF: Overcarbonated, coarse with medium body. Gets thinner as this warms, okay balance, turns a little acidic

A disappointment. I will probably not buy any more from these guys. May not be fresh, but presents more as a possible infection or just plain old mediocre beer. No freshness dating, ugh. Looking at other reviews, I got to think maybe this beer is just too far from its point of origin... (818 characters)

A: Poured from a bottle to a pint glass. Had a bright yellow color and a clear consistency. There was a small amount of foamy head that quickly dissipated. Good lacing.

S: A solid aroma of hops, malt, and pine as well.

T: Tasted of hops - a lot of hops - along with pine, malt, and a hint of citrus. The hoppiness takes a little getting used to, but it becomes likeable after a while. A good flavor.

M: A fair amount of carbonation with an overly bitter and oily finish. Light- to medium-bodied.

O: This beer has its rough spots, but in the end is pretty drinkable. (577 characters)

Nice IPA to start the day off with. I'm very impressed with the consistency of this beer. The more you let it settle, it kinda finishes like a nitro. Not too thick, but definitely substantial, lower end of syrupy. Taste is good, very smooth grassy hop. Much, much, much better taste and consistency than a beer ranked as low as this on BA.

Color is a yellow orange with just a tad of red in the right light. Not a lot of nose, but that may just be me.

Honestly, I think the pot theme may turn some folks off. I'm not into that, but could care less about it when it comes to this beer. I'd definitely buy this again, and again. Love it. (639 characters)

I am admittedly a full on hop head, so I am partial to beers like this, but I see this as a brew everyone can get into, not just those addicted to hops. its approachably light in color, more golden than anything else, with a smallish white head, good clarity. the nose is approachable too, not real bitter or aggressively oily or high alpha, just straight fresh cut citrus fruit, glorious aromatics here. the flavor too is citrus heavy, like founders all day ipa on steroids, its got that familiar yet fresh squeezed juicy refreshing deliciousness, these are the hops I love, and hops I can see others not yet accustomed to big west coast ipas getting into. its so fresh and good, yum! best ive had from three heads for sure. a real joy to drink this light in feel big in taste ipa. well carbonated and really fruity in the finish with minimal bitterness. an excellent citrus side ipa that could potentially be a gateway brew into the style. you would also never know this was pushing 7% abv, it drinks a whole lot lighter. (1,023 characters)

12oz bottle - no date - poured into DFH IPA glass.

Pours light straw with a pitch white head, solid lacing. Nose is assorted citrus and pine spice. The taste has a solid balanced hop profile of pine/floral. Though there is a lingering astringency. Moderate body. Definitely a solid option for the hop heads. (308 characters)
