The Kind IPA has been floating around Pittsburgh for over a year or two know, this elusive beast was tracked down today in bottle format at the Sharp Edge Creekhouse. No bottle dating let's go with our primal senses to determine the age of this beer. Pours with a rock textured white head light copper golden color, earthy resinous hop layers arise on the nose. Citric notes with loads of dankness, I get it...the Kind IPA...wink, wink. Anyways what we have here is a nice solid IPA brewed in NY state dammit, it doesn't have to bow down to any one hop trend or style...it's from NY. The hippie on the label is adorned with four arms a tie-dyed shirt, hoisting the earth, a guitar, and over head with the almighty hop. It's like blending the Indian god Shiva with a middle aged hippie, I like it. Ample bitterness throughout never peaks but keeps the malts bready, biscuit like...no caramelization going on. Hops are rugged hard to pin down but keep it citric, dank, earthy, kind bud esque. Easy to consume not enlightening an Eureka moments in the history of the IPA, but it's damn solid and refreshing. I am a fan slightly resinous with hop oils on the palate, easy going natural carbonation medium bodied at best. This is an anytime IPA, to be enjoyed with or without smoke.

Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a shaker pint. No date visible date on bottle.
Golden yellow body, really clear obviously filtered. Nice egg shell white head.
Tons of pine and citrus aromas. Grapefruit, tropical fruits. Can smell it from a distance, really strong smell coming out of the glass.
Very easy drinking beer, great flavor, can very easily down several of these in one sitting.
Will definitely be looking forward to purchasing some more of these in the future.

Amber colored, nice white head. Ripe mango aroma on top of caramel malt, sweet with hints of lemon and orange. Good firm bitterness up front with an earthy flavor to it, more caramel malt cuts through the aftertaste bogging the hop flavor down just a bit. Hop bitterness is well balanced.

Thick body on the palate, lots of chewy malt holding up the strong hop bittering. Some interesting hop flavors going on, swinging from ripe tropical fruit over to dank resin

Cleans up nicely though, dry finish with lingering hop bitterness and a touch of sweetness from the malt. Very good ipa if you don't mind a touch of malt.

22oz bottle poured into a globe.

A: Dull golden color with a very slight chill haze. Two fingers of eggshell white head settle very quickly. Lacing is patchy and wispy.

S: Pineapple and mango. Very dank, sticky bud. More pineapple. Slight tropical esters. Biscuity malt base is an afterthought.

T: Aggressive, resiny hop bite on the attack. Pine, earthy, toasted hemp seed. Oily and biting. Tropical flavors of mango and a strong pineapple juice character ride on the coattails of the bitter onslaught. Slight spike of alcohol and tropical ester toward the back end. Toast and biscuit malt base. Finishes with an herbal, oily hop bitterness.

M: Medium bodied. Firm and substantial. Carbonation scrubs and bites, adding a refreshing edge while lifting the oily hop texture and simultaneously amplifying the bitterness.

O: It’s an aggressive American IPA that has a nice bite to it. Hopheads will appreciate it. Neophytes might find it to be a little too much. If it wants to really compete in a saturated IPA market, I think it needs to see a six-pack format.

Pours a glowing golden yellow with solid 1 finger pure white head with bubbles streaming up from the bottom of the glass. Not much lace.
Aroma is high on the charts! Big sticky and dank pine with juicy grapefruit. Some malt backbone but dominated by dank pine and fruit with wet forest floor and prickly pine needles.
Taste follows closely on the nose with big dank pine up front balanced by wet forest floor and bark derived from sweet malts. Juicy grapefruit with medium bitter, grapefruit skins and resins on the finish. Very powerful yet sessionable!
Feel is spot on with frothy mouth feel fading into grapefruit skin finish.
Drinks like an Imperial or Double IPA!
