Notes/Commercial Description:
Sometimes things go together so well, one wonders what life was like before it - like peanut butter and jelly, hippies and patchouli. With that in mind, we at the 3HB lab have created the Bromigo, bringing together smoked malts and maple syrup, amber ale and spicy hops, bold flavor and a sweet finish. It just goes together like Bro and Amigo. Enjoy friend!

From BeerAdvocate magazine Issue #67 (August 2012):

LOOK: Dark amber; clear, sudsy lacing

SMELL: Smoke, earth, maple, caramel, biscuity, spicy, fruity alcohol

TASTE: Bready, smooth, smoke, mild ash, maple, spicy hop, balanced bitterness, charred raisins, mango, treacle, bread crust, hay; smoky, drying finish

A whole lot going on in this bottle. Controlled chaos comes to mind, extreme but quite drinkable. A true American beer, maybe the “Smoked Maple” can be an actual style one day. Hell yeah! Three Heads really has it going on—while the palate is pushing through, the balance of complexities is showcased.

Bomber bottle. Poured into tulip, gave an initial head but faded rather quickly, might have been some residue. The beer itself is a dark ruby amber, light brown. Some whispy lacing.

S - maple is pronounced, as are light smoky oaky aromas, peaty, and campfire aromas, slightly sweet maple aromas, very much a cabiny feel to it. some vegetal citrusy notes. Raisin, brown sugar.

T - smoky bacon, maple wood with a syrupy edge, pale malt with a smoky lightness to it. Some lemony citrus, bread, peaty and woody, also some nuttiness (almond). The finish gets quite smoky and dry. Maple is allround a subtle compliment, not too overbearing, there is a smooth bitterness allround, quite earthy.

M - a little sweet and syrupy initially, smooth light carbonation, a little on the dessert side. A good smooth sipper, body is moderate, with a noticeable barleywine styled body, sweet candied raisins and brown sugar start to develop.

An interesting combination. Smoke and maple combine pretty well, the beer itself could do with a bit less candied dark fruit but the complexity is not too bad. A tasty beer, a bit of a novelty, a bit syrupy in the body to really be easy drinking and really outstanding, but a beer I would have again nonetheless.

22 ounce bottle into tulip glass, no bottle dating. Pours lightly cloudy ruby copper color with a 2 finger fairly dense and rocky light khaki head with great retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a good amount of streaming carbonation retaining the head. Aromas of big apple skin, pear, toast, light caramel, light smoke, herbal, and yeast earthiness. Poor aromas with overly estery notes and light malt presence. Taste of caramel, toast, smoked meat, brown bread, brown sugar, maple syrup, light chocolate, herbal, and toasted earthiness. No bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of caramel, toast, brown sugar, smoke, light chocolate, brown bread, herbal, and toasted earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Nice balance and complexity of dark malt, smoke, and maple syrup flavors; with good robustness and zero cloying sweetness after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a moderately creamy, smooth, and lightly bready mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is well hidden with only a light warming present after the finish. Overall, other than the horrible aromas, this was a very solid smoked amber ale. Well balanced dark/bready malt, smoke, and maple syrup flavors; and very smooth to sip on. This was quite enjoyable.

Saw this in the beer store and just couldn't pass it up.

A: Reddish brown, a slight off-white head that has almost no retention and no lacing.

S: Sweet caramel malts, a hefty hit of smokiness that threatens to overwhelm the rest of the aroma. A slight nuttiness, but nothing discernible as maple.

T: Smoke on the tastebuds is much less prominent than I feared, but still quite noticeable. The beginning is malty, lots of nutty, maple flavor. The smoke comes along with the bitter hop finish which stops the sweetness that is so prominent in the beginning. The finish is remarkably dry.

M: Moderate body, a decent amount of carbonation, and slightly sticky at the back of the throat.

O: A nice beer, not one that I would drink all the time, but chocked full of good, fall flavors. The smoke, maple and hops all play together better than I would have expected, and the beer is remarkably well balanced. Worth checking out for sure, but only if you like smoked brews.
