An interesting find here in the triad of NC.,I have had alot of Three Heads brews while in western NY.Poured into a standard pint glass a dull lightly hazed copper color with a thinner white head that was gone pretty quickly.Grapefruit-like hops with a little pine resin mixed with boozy sweetness in the nose.Citric hops on the palate are pretty much even with sugary and alcohol sweetness, the hops are pretty big but so is the sweetness.Par for the course as far as the style goes for alot of brewers, not bad but it's pretty damn sweet. (538 characters)

From BeerAdvocate Magazine #79 (Aug 2013):

Nothing earth shattering here, just an all around good DIPA. Mellow but very flavorful. The 8.5% ABV is pretty well hidden. We were wondering if The Kind IPA had a big brother—this one will appease the hopheads.

LOOK: Bright golden hue, good frothing

SMELL: Dank hop resin, pineapple, orange rind, peppery alcohol, rose water, apricots, bready maltiness

TASTE: Smooth, mild crispness, bitty, ripe fruit, pronounced bitterness, soft dank hop flavor, orange pulp, citrus zest, kiss of caramel, toasted grain, leafy, yeast, warming, semidry finish with a long, lingering hoppiness (681 characters)

12 oz bottle into a snifter.

Small white head off the pour but retains a nice ring and patchy foam with lot of thick lacing. Fairly clear deep golden light orange color.

Resinous, almost dank aroma. Some pine and a bit floral. Hints of maybe something tropical as it warms.

Pretty good taste, but nothing grounding breakingly new in terms of hop flavor. Quite resinous and bitter. Floral, piney, and some bitter grapefruit citrus. Some alcohol noticeable but in no way overpowering. Slight tropical fruit towards the end of the glass.

Good mouthfeel for the style. Medium bodied.

Pretty good dipa, but with all the amazing ones out there I probably wouldn't buy this again. (683 characters)

16oz pour into a clear plastic cup. From notes at HomeGrown II @ Lovin Cup. Official release of the beer.

A: This brew pours a clear slighty dark golden orange with a .5 finger white head. Lots of carbonation. Head dissipates in a few minutes leaving a thin covering for the remainder of the session. Tough glass for lacing.

S: First thing that hit my nose was a great bouquet of hops. It came through as a piney citrus blend with good earthiness. Light malting in the background that becomes more pronounced as it warms.

T:Floral fruitiness with a thorough overall hoppy taste. High bitterness levels which is appreciated in this style. Mild sweetness from the malts adds some drinkability. Lingering pine, earthiness and citrus on the aftertaste.

M: Fairly thick mouthfeel, sticky nectar like quality yet still dry. A fair amount of carbonation keeps it crisp. Booze is present but not overwhelming, which is great considering the ABV.

Overall an amped up "The Kind" with very impressive hops notes. A must try for any hophead. Can compete with some of the best Double IPA's. (1,084 characters)

Thanks to Hoyt for bringing this one to me from NY

A - clear orange with a big, frothy, white head that has great retention

S - herbal, faintly piney, some faint malt

T - malt, faint sweetness like cake batter, herbal hop character, some pine, bitter finish

M - medium bodied, well carbonated

This is a really nice beer. I would like a slightly bigger malt backbone to balance the immense hop character, but this has balance nonetheless. The hops are pleasant and not overpowering. Despite the ABV this beer also has great drinkability. This is definitely worth a try. (573 characters)

Wow....probably the best IPA I have had from a NY brewer!! Kudos to Three Heads. The beer poured a clear orangish color with thin white head that is leaving some lace. The smell has fresh hops that is more heavy on the pine than citrus. The taste has a decent sweet malt throughout the drink, with fresh hops present. The mouthfeel is full body with smooth carbonation. Overall this is a tasty beer and I must thank my bro in law!!!! (433 characters)

Pours a nice semi-cloudy orange-amber. Head looks nice at first, but packs it's bags early and hightails it out of there rapidly, leaving minimal lacing. Aroma is great with hints of tropical citrus, lots of mango and orange. Also a slight bit of hop aroma(floral). Taste is bold up front with citrus peel, sweet citrus and piney resin. Rapid flavor decrease as it goes down, leaving a slight bitter, sweet citrus aftertaste. Alcohol is hidden very well and this beer is very drinkable. I just wish that the flavors were a little more bolder and lasted longer. Doesn't quite have the oomph of a DIPA. (600 characters)
