Good look with a murky brown body and decent head. Doesn't stick much. Not bad overall though.

Nose is far too faint for the bruising dubbel style. Caramel and pepper are in there with a slight fruitiness and a dry chalky sensation as well.

The flavor is similar in that it is good but not great and generally uncompelling. Raisin and other dark fruits mingle with the caramel but they do not build to a greater, more complex purpose. As with other calavera beers I have had, it comes out a little thin, tasting of carbonation, and generally lacking the highest levels of attenuation skills. This is easily the most difficult trick in the book and the Belgians hav had centuries to perfect it. Calavera is on its way but still has a lot of work to do.

A thick twoonie sized mousse like head comes out right off the bat, which is followed up by a light carbonation. And the nose was bold with strong malt, caramel and prune aromas grabbing you. I found this to be a sweet, malty beverage that didn't even hint at being bitter or hoppy.

Light murky brown color with a thin head with very short term retention.
Predominant malty and grainy aroma with notes of caramels and cognac.
Malty flavor with grains, hay, some citrusy, caramels, booze, raisins and herbal hop notes.
Interesting that the aroma indicated a much heavier body and a bolder beer, but the promise wasn’t fulfilled. Light body ending watery with medium carbonation.
Lacks complexity on a body that cannot hold its just 6.4% abv and it does not feel balanced. Bland for the style, not awful, but I wouldn’t have it again.
