Great trend, growler fills in a pharmacy...another reason that Brooklyn is a world wide beer destination....they keep the selections on the safe side, even offering some non craft options, the prices are right, nothing over about $10.99 for a 64 ounce fill. They also have a large walk in cooler, where you will find a decent selection of widely available BA worthy choices. Think Stone, Brooklyn, Avery, Ommegang etc. Dont expect rarities, but go for the convenience of fresh and portable draft beer.

Wow. Had to check this one out since I was in the area and heard it was in a 24 hr Duane Reade... Interesting. It's basically right next to the main Checkout area. I walked right past it first and went straight to a cooler room which has half of their usual suspects (crap beer) and some good basic craft beer...Goose Island, Brooklyn, Ballast Point etc..
I wasn't sure if the Growler bar was open all night like the store was, since it was about 1130pm when I went. Someone who worked came around when I checked out the taps (7-8 taps mostly local and Goose Island). They seem to change taps frequently though according to twitter. Not sure if it was the manager pouring my beer or associate. Did a good job. Didn't have much knowledge of all the beer. Only had tried some of them, but knew enough myself to make a decision. @ $7.99 per 64 oz growler that's freaking awesome. It's close enough for me to wander into, and might not have the biggest collection or rare beers, but they have good local and non local brews for those who want. Growlers are 3.99. They do tastings or sample sessions of different breweries it seems almost every weekend. Check it out if you near but don't go out of your way.
Taps when I went- Brooklyn: BCS, EIPA, Lager. Sixpoint: Sweet Action. Goose island: IPA. Lake placid Ubu ale. Shock top Belgian (bleh!)

I had read a couple of articles in the local NYC press about the new Duane Reade growler joint in Williamsburg and wanted to check it out. The other day the wife and I were strolling around Bedford Avenue and we stumbled upon it. So let's go in! This is a small place, much smaller than any Duane Reade I've ever been too in Manhattan. It looks like a basic convenience store, I don't think it stores anything beyond toilet paper and some processed food items. :-)
The attraction here is the beer of course! The so-called "Brew York City Growler Bar". It's basically just a small cubicle with eight draft lines and tons of empty growlers around (etched not with the Duane Reade logo but the cool "Brew York City" symbol).
Almost all of it is local, of course. Crazy trend! Kelso, Sixpoint, Brooklyn... plus Goose Island Honkers and Lake Placid Ubu. Offerings are not exactly exciting but serviceable enough, and sometimes they'll have more interesting stuff like Brooklyn Monster and Brooklyn Chocolate Stout.
All of them are well-priced at $7.99 per growler, can't beat that! Service is not the best (this is Duane Reade after all), but whatever.
Behind the "growler bar is the huge walk-in beer cooler, with a broad-but-not-great selection if bombers and six-packs. Ommegang, Stone, Brooklyn, Victory... you won't find rarities here. This is more like your local deli with a slightly bigger, cared-for selection.
Open 24 hours, just in case you need fresh draft beer at 4 am (although I'm not sure the growler bar is open all day). Good for the neighborhood (not a destination), but these days just about everyone has a growler station, so the competition is stiff.

This is a gem inside of a Duane Reade drug store. Yes you are reading correctly. The store has both a walk in fridge and a growler filling station with approximately 6 taps. All taps are usually devoted to local favorites (i.e. Brooklyn Brewery, Sixpoint, Kelso). The service is spotty but what can be expected from a drug store selling beer? The fact that the beers are all $7.99 for 64 oz growler fills (growler not included) makes up for any service deficiancies.
Must visit if you're in the Williamsburg area!
