This beer pours a clear light bronze color. The head is a half an inch in height, and recedes quickly into minimal lacing. The aroma is dominated by butterscotch. The taste is also all butterscotch, but stronger. There are absolutely no hops detectable in either the flavor or aroma of this beer. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with lively carbonation. Overall, this is a bad beer that I will not drink again.

A- Light Golden, slightly transparent,

S- Syrup, very little hop character, slight earth tones

T- Very little up front. Some caramel malt with a earth/citrus hop finish. Some lemon and possible grapefruit.

M- Lays loose on the palate. Any malt/hop character quickly fades.

O- There isn't much to say about this beer because there isn't much going on. What it does have going for it is that it is easy drinking; and the 5.5% ABV could qualify it as a sessionable IPA. However, all other sessionable IPA's I have had offer much more flavor. I think there could be a time and place for this beer, but it was rather disappointing. I could see drinking it on a lake or outdoors.

This is the second Big Bay offering I've tried. Poured this one into a pint glass, a hazy caramel amber with a quarter inch eggshell head that disperses quickly and leaves little cling. Moderate visible carbonation. Not much of an aroma: there's some caramel malt sweetness that's reminiscent of butterscotch, and just a very scant amount of herbal hop notes coming through. The taste leaves a lot to be desired: The sweetness of the malts is too strong up front, poorly balanced by what my mouth is registering as only hop oil bitterness. This bitter seems to last through the life of the taste on my tongue. I don't mind the bitter, but give me some good herbal or pine or citrus from the hops, as well. The feel of the beer is decent, with nice creaminess and a bit of acidic bite. Not as clean-finishing as I'd like, though--a bit syrupy.

While I'm happy to support Wisconsin breweries like Big Bay, I can't really get behind this particular IPA. It lacks the hop flavor and aroma that I love from this style. It drinks a lot like a Minhas IPA I recently tried, with too much sweetness and not enough attention to the hops.

Thoroughly average IPA. Fine, but not remarkable by any measure. Very little hop characteristic on the nose; appearance is a nice golden, non-cloudy. Taste is hop forward, but I would guess no more than mid-40s on IBUs. Overall, fine at the low-mid price point, but nothing special.

12 oz. bottle tried 29 Oct 2011. Yet another bottle from the ever generous R&S, thank you! Served in the 0.4 L Herren Pils snifter.

Small off white head. Medium carbonation. Clear orange copper in color. Light aroma, sweetly malty, touch syrupy. Relatively bitter, some nuttiness. Light maltiness. Medium body, moderate ethanol. Finishes just a touch astringent/bitter.

A says kind of one note and lightly hopped for an IPA.
