On tap at Buffalo Wild Wings in Indianapolis on 2/7/14.

Appearance:
Hazy orange, nice hefeweizen look

Smell:
Faint orange, not strong but quite unique compared to other IPAs I have had.

Taste:
Pine resin, very strong bitter up front. Orange rind, bitter grapefruit notes.

Mouthfeel:
Medium body, nice carbonation.

Overall:
Walks the fine line between "generic bitter" IPA and complex brew with the citrus notes. A lot of flavor here!

A-cloudy orange two finger head with lacing some carbonation

S-hops grass dirt, not much malt but lots of hops

T-very hoppy, grass dirt and pine, mild citrus. Ends with a sharp hop bite and slight bitterness

M-medium bodied, slight carbonation mild hop resins

O- A nice all round IPA, but with so many good ones out there it is difficult to revisit it.

Just had a bottle, had a pint yesterday!
This IPA is terrific!

A: Hazy orange that is cloudy with a nice off white head.

S: Citus, hops, piney. Smells large

T: way hoppy. Smooth and balanced with a hint of sweet and malts. Like it

M: Mouthfeel big for IPA. Hops linger just right!

O: big fan. Now that's it in bottles, will keep some in the fridge!

A - Pours a golden straw color with 1 finger of white head that dissipates pretty quick. Vertical streaks of lacing left on the glass.

S - Dank concentrated herbal hops, some floral. Smells like cannabis. Not getting much else.

T - Follows up the nose with crunchy herbal hops, dried pine needles, floral purfume, dry cereal malt barely shows up but doesn't stand a chance against the hops. Finishes bitter and very dry.

M - Slick and oily feel, medium carbonation that drops off.

It's good for 1 pint. The dry herbal hops just wreck your palate. Good if you're in the mood for an herbal hop bomb.

I have had this beer on multiple occasions and it keeps me craving for more.

A: Pours bronze orange that is cloudy with an off white head that is impressive.

S: Huge HOPS upfront with little malt on the nose. Really piney and citrusy. Great smelling IPA. Smells heavier than it drinks.

T: WOW, really comes off like a DIPA. Not sure why, but I feel like I am drinking a 10% hop bomb without the high ABV. Super hoppy with bitter pine and sweet malt on the finish. I really love this beer!!

M: Mouthfeel is thick and syrupy. Good carbs and great finish with a nice lingering bitterness that is not too harsh on the enamel.

One of my favorite IPA's ever!!

Copying all my ratings over from ratebeer.com. I feel I should be represented on both sites. This is #1 of 83.

On tap at twenty tap. Hop aroma was nonexistent, but very good hop flavor. Grapefruit and mango flavors. Complex malt flavors. Sweet, bready, and biscuity all at once. Very well balanced. Good beer.

This beer was enjoyed at the Ale Emporium in Indianapolis.

It arrived a rich, unpolished gold in color with a soapy one finger head. The nose is soft, fresh, soapy with no bitterness and some spice. I dig it. The flavors too are fresh and spicy. It has some fresh hop esque soap to it as well as a moderate amount of onion. I didn't get the onion from previous experiences. The spicyness is its best characteristic and makes it somewhat unique. It drinks light and has plenty of carbonation. The alcohol isn't present at all. It isn't sticky either. Overall this is a decent local IPA and pretty enjoyable. I'd recommend trying it if you haven't already.

On tap at Fiddler's Hearth in South Bend over the Christmas holiday. Served in a pint glass. Reviewed from notes.

Pours a nice orange color with a good white head and plenty of lacing. Thin cap throughout. The nose carries some good notes of pine plus some orange and other citrus. Flavor has the hops, but not quite in the same bouquet as the aroma. Light-medium body with good carbonation and a dry finish. Good brew.

A - this is a great looking beer. Cloudy amber/orange with a thick fluffy white head. Great retention. So much lacing.

S - earthy pine, touch of citrus.

T - much like the smell. Good bitterness. Small bit of malt sweetness creeps in the end. Could benefit from a bit more balance but pretty good.

M - thick and creamy.

A very good beer.

Fresh pint at the brewery.

Smells ashen, like roasted peat moss mixed with a fistful of piney, west coast hops. Neat smell, I guess, but a little unbalanced.

Tastes like it smells, only with some more herbal complexities. Pine nodes are almost overwhelming at the front end, but some wisps of earthen and toffeeish pale malts come in by the middle. The sweeter malts gain strength and this winds up being decently balanced.

'salright.

on tap 09/13 @ Dicks Bodacious BBQ Downtown Indy.

Good head retention. White foam hangs around low around the edge.

Smells like a delicious lawnmower. Nice and hoppy. Very little malt smell.

T: Nice balance of bittering hops. Kind of surprised they were there,; the smell didn't tip me off at all. They didn't skimp of the $$$ when making this.

M: Good smoothness that you would expect from a decent Craft Brewer.

The first time I tried this beer, was on opening day of the Flat12 Brewery last year.

As I recall, the bittering hops have gotten slightly stronger, which I like, but everything else is the same. My taste buds may be off since I was eating BBQ though.

look: 4.5 | smell: 4 | taste: 4 | feel: 4 | overall: 4

Appearance: Arrives with a cloudy amber color with an inch or so of foam that sheets the pint glass with lace

Smell: Pithy and piney

Taste: The pith assaults the tastebuds at the outset, with the pine and a bit of a fruity character developing by mid-palate; after the swallow, the pithy bitterness dominates through the finish

Mouthfeel: Medium to full body with moderate carbonation

Overall: A very nice IPA for the hophead, this one grew on me; I would prefer a bit more of a citrusy character, but this was an impressive stab at the style

First off I wasn't impressed with this because it instantly smelled like marijuana to me!

A: A good looking amber golden

S: Weed! Smelled like very dank hops and weed. Which I didn't like at all to be honest.

T: Still had the week on my palate so it tasted like it as well...

M: Typical IPA mouthfeel with a clean finish but still had a lingering weed feel...

O: I'm sure pot smokers would love this but I didn't like it.

Nice amber/golden color. Smells very earthy to me. Lots of grass and hay, loads of hops, some citrus on the nose. Taste is very good. Very hoppy and earthy. Has a bitterness on the end of it that keeps me from being able to pound it. Mouthfeel was heavy for the ABV. Creamy, carbonated. A good sipping IPA IMO. Very impressed with my first experience with flat 12. This was my favorite IPA from an Indiana brewery not named 3 floyds. I really hope they bottle this bad boy.

On tap at Tom Tap Room

A: Golden Straw with light lacing and no head retention
S: Straight pine with just a touch of malt trying to come through
T: The pine is the main focus here, but I sure don't think this thing is 104 IBU's. The flavor is all pine without much coming through.
M: Medium bodied
D: I wouldn't say no to one of these, but I wouldn't reach out for it either.

I think they have the base for a really great beer here, but it just hits one note for me.

Pours a very nice reddish-copper with decent head and lacing. Nice deep scent, good malt backbone with nice citrus aroma. Nice two-row malt flavor with nice Crystal hit; excellent citrus hop finish, but slightly unbalanced with some pine at the end as well. Goes down well, except for the slight imbalance. Good IPA. Another of the launch beers at the new Flat 12 brewery in Indianapolis.

This is the Flat 12 brew I have been most excited about trying. It is billed as a single IPA hopped to the level of a double. 100+ IBU's. Single/Double = Half Cycle...

I found this beer pretty much lived up to my expectations. It's got a great aroma with a lot of citrusy, piney hops. The flavor is also very hoppy, with little of the crystal malt coming through. I noticed some tropical fruit, grapefruit and pine. The bitterness is noticeable, but not too harsh.

Overall I think this is a very good beer. Perhaps too much balanced towards hops to make it as highly drinkable as say a Two-Hearted, but still a very solid IPA.

First time trying this beer. Poured from growler into a pint glass.

A: Pours a clear rich copper with minimal head. If you can get at least a half finger head the lacing holds.

S: Nothing really sticks out, some citrus notes but that's all.

T: A little resin up front, getting that orange, grapefruit, mango citrus flavors. Not much hop bite to it. Pretty balanced, smooth and dry. I was expecting more of a bite, their website says 104.1 IBU. Maybe it's there but you don't taste it. Really sweet undertones.

M: Not bad at all, just wish it had more of a bitter bite. Carbonation is perfect.

O: I enjoyed this beer. Definitely will drink again. The more you drink the more the sweetness comes out. At 6% ABV it's perfect for me in 6 packs. Really true to the style of the beer.

A: Pours a hazy medium golden yellow in color with light to moderate amounts of active visible carbonation rising from the bottom of the glass and honey + apricot highlights. The beer has a two finger tall dense foamy off-white head that slowly reduces to very thick film covering the entire surface of the beer almost completely evenly and a thick ring at the edges of the glass. Significant amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Moderate aromas of citrus/grapefruit pith, herbal, and pine hops over the top of slightly sweet grainy malts.

T: Upfront there are light flavors of slightly sweet grainy malts which is quickly followed by a strong flavor of hops - aggressive citrus/grapefruit pith followed by light flavors of pine and herbal. Moderate amounts of bitterness that lingers is present.

M: Medium bodied with slightly heavier than moderate amounts of carbonation. Light amounts of dryness in the finish.

O: Not as well balanced as some of the other examples of the style, there is a lot more bitterness than there is sweetness from the malts. Easy enough to drink but a touch one-dimensional with the strong dominance of the citrus/grapefruit pith hops.

Big thanks to ssidetroller for the cool extra. Enjoyed from a batch 1 BT willie becher.

a - brew poured a semi transparent orange with lots of visible carb racing to the surface. The head was big and frothy and grew after the pour sat. Chunks of lace left on the glass...a bit much, but nice.

s - smell is a big earthy malt with a slap of hops over the top.

t/m - as the nose suggests a malt forward IPA with a nice hop blast on the back end adding some fruit but mostly bitterness to the finish. Super duper drinkable though. I could finish the entire bottle in one slug since it is so soft and easy drinking.

o - overall comes across as more of a pale than an IPA (in today's world of hop bombs). I really dig it and would have it again, but this isn't the kind of beer I look for when I crave an IPA. Great session-ish pale though for when you don't want the hop assault.

12 oz bottle poured into a pint glass

A- A very slight haze in a bright golden orange beer. A one finger white head.

S- Citrus, pine, burnt sugar

T- Big bitterness at first for this IPA. The hop profile takes over. Very citrusy, sticky and fresh. An herbal garden note and a lingering spice on the end. Malt bill is on the sweeter size but allows most of the beers focus on the Hops.

M- Medium bodied, on the bitter side.

O- A solid IPA and an easy drinker.

Pours medium amber/orange. Minimal head, but good lacing on glass and on top. Hoppy but not smack your tongue hoppy. Mouth feel is well bodied & refreshing. Aftertaste not overly bitter and doesn't last long. First offering I've tried from Flat 12, but will try more. Looking forward to their tasting room in nearby Jeffersonville IN.

12 oz.

Pours a slightly hazy gold, fluffy eggshell head is fairly immense and retains pretty much indefinitely.

Smells of light clover honey and fresh floral hops.

Tastes of fresh piney and floral hops and mild honey sweetness with some biscuit malt base.

Medium body with tingly carbonation on the roof of the mouth.

A flavorful and fresh IPA with a clean flavor and a slightly richer maltiness than you might expect, drinks pretty easy and enjoyably. Worth trying.
