I obtained this 1 Liter growler at the Flat 12 Taproom in Indianapolis. Poured heavily into a tulip pint glass resulted in a modest sized tan head that left strings and freckles of lacing. The body was decidedly opaque with faint red highlights.
The smell was the weakest aspect of this beer. I found it to be ashy with some damp grains. Iced coffee notes but no citrus. Overall the aromas were a bit too quiet.
The taste was light chocolate malts and after it warmed - sweet oranges. The refreshing tartness was gently balanced with the lightly sweet malts. This beer had an understated citrus sourness that was complimented by the clean coffee and chocolate notes. The finish was semi-dry but left a trace of sweet stickiness on the lips.
The texture was true to the style in that it was lightly carbonated and smooth. Its body was medium to light, and overall it was very drinkable. Porters are often underappreciated but this was a well-crafted and enjoyable beer.

Pours brown / dark color with an average head that forms an off white ring around the cup. Nose is chocolate and some sweet tangerine smells nice. Taste starts off with dark chocolates that moves to a very rich dark chocolates and some bakers chocolate. Extremely rich overall. Ends a little dry with a medium body. Overall, this is a solid porter. Lots of flavors is packed into it...I highly recommend it of you can stop by the pub.

No need to type a brewery name into your search--this is the database's only tangerine porter.
Flat 12 makes good beer, but the dudes who work there aren't as accessible as the ones at Sun King. You try asking them about a beer (like this one, say), and they'll tell you it's sorta like Guinness. I guess I look like a rube. There was a guy next to me in a business suit, and every one of his assinine questions was treated with respect: "you ever try that uhh, the hoe-garden?" "Yeah, yeah we got something like that..." I asked what kinds of hops are in this and the guy just sort of rolled his eyes at me.
Anyhow, this is well brewed. It is not, like its name suggests, gimmicky. Pours with a bit of a chill haze. Smells like dark barley with surprisingly heavy nodes of chocolate--I might have taken it for a stout, if I were judging based solely on the aroma. But its porteryness is confirmed in the first sip: very dark baker's chocolate mixed with rough, burnt barley gradually give way to dry porter hops. But then, you know how a regular porter has a nice, rough and lightly sour backend. That's where you taste the tangerine, and it accentuates it beautifully. Very nicely done.

A= Nice dark brown color with nice tan head that left behind some great lacing on this beer.
S= On the nose there is a nice Tangerine/Citrus scent. A caramel scent with some coffee also has a little bit of hops in this one.
T= Nice coffee taste up front. A little bit of the Tangerine/Citrus in the backbone. Really liked how this one came out.
M= Medium Carbonation, Great Carbonation on this one.
O= Overall, this is a really nice porter I really liked it because it was different from any porter that I've had and glad I got to try this one. I would recommend giving this one a try.

(On tap at Tomlinson Tap Room)
Pours a nice deep black with some very nice tan head and nice lacing throughout. Very nice scent, with excellent roasted grains, a slight coffee undertone, and a nice citrus fruit throughout the nose. Very nice flavors, as well, with excellent roasted grains, slight coffee hints, and a great chocolate undertone to a great tangerine/orange flavor that is really quite nice. I wasn't sure I'd like the tangerine-porter combination, but it worked quite well! Very smooth, slightly smoky, goes down very well.

I had this on tap at the Valpo Brewfest on 9/24/11. I am always seeking new/different beer experiences. This porter certainly falls into that category
The dark brown porter was pored into a glass with little head. The aroma was both chocolate and tangerine. It reminded me on one of those chocolate covered orange things that break into slices which stores seem to sell around Christmas. The aroma melted into the taste of both chocolate and tangerine/citrus. Chocolate did dominate the citrus flavor to a degree. Mouthfeel was fairly consistent with little carbonation. Easily, it was thick enough to be recognized as a porter. Before fading, the aftertaste was a potent dark chocolate.
Though this is not an everyday or go-to beer, it is a good unique beer experience.

I had this on tap at Flat 12, and brought home a growler for further tasting.
Appearance: Very dark with a light sandy tan head.
Scent: Dark chocolate/medium roasted coffee smell. As it approached 60degF, I got a very slight citrus scent.
Taste: Deep chocolate sweet taste to a medium coffee to a dry/toasty taste to a hazelnut. Ends clean. Maybe that's where the tangerine is?
Putting it all together:
It's put forth as a Tangerine Porter. Did it deliver?
No. =( I really wanted to taste tangerine in this, and usually I'm pretty citrus-sensitive. But I didn't. I let this come up almost completely to room temperature, and no tangerine.
It's a very good example of a porter. But it's not a 'Tangerine' porter.

A: Classic porter appearance. Nice dark brown that allows minimal light penetration around the edges of the glass. Produced a one-finger, tan head with excellent lacing
S: A surprising amount of tangerine comes through, especially as the beer warms. Also complimented by classic porter coffee and caramel malt presence. The slightest hop scent also pokes through.
T: Based on the aroma, I was expecting more tangerine. However, if you allow the beer to approach 55-60 degrees, it comes through nicely in the aftertaste. Leads with somewhat sweet coffee and chocolate notes followed by a little alcohol and the tangerine. This is a fairly mild porter compared to others I have tried. I could have used a stronger coffee malt and alcohol presence, but Flat 12 is pushing it as a "summer porter" and it fits that purpose.
M: Great carbonation with medium body. Again, nicely set up as a darker warm weather offering
O: Overall, I would say that Flat 12 hit the mark when trying to brew up a summer porter. While fairly subtle, the tangerine is a nice finishing touch.
