I had a small pour of this on tap at a local Mellow Mushroom, then bought a bottle because I really liked it. I'm becoming a big fan of galaxy hops and this beer features them nicely.

Soft citrus and big, grassy resin in aroma. Grapefruit dominates.

Flavor is grapefruit pith dominant, with a resiny bitterness at the finish. A little more bitter than I'd prefer. Becomes earthy as it lingers.

A gusher. After cleanup, it poured huge head in a pint glass. Way overcarbed. Nice hazy amber color with (huge) off white head. Aroma was citrus, pine and some spicy peppery earthy tones. Subtle malt and was balanced. Clean finish. Another solid APA.

Had this on tap at boombozz. Copperish-orange color, light white fluffy head. Mouthfeel was smooth for the genre, very crisp. Some malt flavor with definite citrus towards the backend. I was a fan.

This one was a gusher . . . My first ever. Anyway, surprisingly some really good pale ale qualities going on with this beer. I wasn't giving it much a chance. Not sure why that is but I am pretty impressed regardless. Nice looking beer and pleasant aromas. Taste is primarily citrus and piney. Feel is just right with the carbination being spot on. Overall Walkabout is a solid pale ale top to bottom. Kinda reminds me of S.N. pale ale mixed with Celebration ale with a couple months on it. Good beer.

12oz bottle, picked up on a family road trip to Indianapolis
A - persisteny, creamy off-white head tops a deep golden-amber body
S - juicy lemon-lime and passion fruit, somewhat herbal and vegetal
T - nutty toasty grain, caramel malt, juicy, lemon & lime pith, passion fruit
M - thinner than medium for body, moderate carbonation, finishes bitter and dry
O - nice juicy American Pale Ale with Aussie hops. Glad to have the chance to try it.

Nice hazy copper colour. HUGE white head that leaves a ton of lace on the glass. Aromas of lemon and some hops
Taste is somewhat appealing. Some fruit and yeast.
Mouth feel is totally carbonation with a lot of bitterness.
I think some of the reviews fail to understand this is an APA in a farm house saisson style. Not a bad job from this brewery!

the high rating for this is just ridiculous. it's a below average beer, which means (according to the ratings) it is a well below average APA. i would never pay for this beer, unless i were in some hell of a bar where it happened to be the best option. the taste is very malt-driven, with a too much diacetyl and lightly cheesy notes.

I like head as much as the next guy, but this is ridiculous. This beer takes nearly a half hour to pour out because the carbonation is ridiculous. The appearance is a hazy orange yellow. Smell is of toasted bread and hops. Taste of bread, pineapple, and hops. Decently balanced but nothing strikes me as a quality of a great beer. Mostly this beer just doesn't need this much carbonation. It's annoying. The mouthfeel doesn't end up smooth or creamy, rather slightly watery, like a flat coke.

Way over carbonated. Poured a 12 oz bottle down the side and still only got half the bottle into a pint glass.

Once it settled down, the color was a perfect golden brown.

Nice citrus and hoppy scent.

The flavor was bitter without being balanced or pleasant. I couldn't rate the mouth feel any higher because of the high level carbonation.

Wasn't sure what to expect as I chose this APA by chance on my 21st birthday at the local Casual Pint in Knoxville.

Initially tried to drink straight from the bottle but soon figured out that this wasn't going to work as I was getting basically a mouth full of foam.

Went to pour it into a glass and got about 4 or 5 times the amount of foam as liquid in the glass.

Once the foam had settled it was delicious. It had a beautiful color and seemed to almost have a bit of sediment left in from what I assume were the spices.??

It had a great fruity taste while staying away from the bitterness that I associate with IPAs.
Is this a common thing in the APAs??

All in all I was satisfied with my first try at a 6 pack of craft beer.

12 ounce bottle. Served in a pint glass, the beer pours a hazy golden/orange color with an inch off-white head that sticks around a long time. There's also a lot of lacing. The brew smells mostly like citrusy hops (tropical fruit, mango), along with some light caramel malt. It tastes like citrusy (tropical fruit, citrus peel, mango, grapefruit) hops, bready malt, and a nice lingering bitter finish. Mouthfeel/body is light/medium, it's a bit slick and creamy with a good amount of carbonation. I think it's a good overall pale ale. I've had a few different brews from Flat 12 now, and I've liked all of them. Definitely worth picking up!

Bottle opened and no explosion! Enjoyed from my BT batch 001 willie becher. Brew poured a foggy sienna orange with a thin fizzy head that had staying power from the carb that steadily swam to the surface. Nose is a malt bomb so this must be on the old side since everyone talks about how hoppy the beer is. The bottle has 111414 stamped on it, not sure what that means, but this is no hop bomb. Flavor is also malty with bitterness on the finish. Not a big fan of this one, would love to check it out fresher though to give it a fair shake. Not a drain pour but if this is what this beer is supposed to be like then it is not something I would seek out again, but I would definitely give it another shot considering the nice reviews.

Gusher when opened, and a glass full of foam.... 3rd or so beer so far, I'm noticing a trend here. Clumps of sparkling foam that billows above the rim and looks like soap suds. Racing carbonation streams in the glass, tons of foam and carbonation.

Aroma is fairly hoppy, restrained and slightly resiny.

Bitter hops, resiny pine, bitter citrus peel in the dry aftertaste. Nice level of happiness, some IPA's aren't this balanced and drinkable. Carbonation seems high, but it may be a storage issue as this is the 3rd bottle from the same box. Want to try again to get a better overall impression.

Thanks Howard!

Want to know how to make a world class American Pale Ale? Flat 12 figured it out! The trick is that you have to abandon the predetermined balance and taste of malt to hops and simply make an IPA, but back off the gravity and alcohol.

Pushing hops clearly into the drivers seat, the lupulin influence is apparent to the eye. The foam billows to the top of the glass and nearly topples it. Seeming of Belgian Ales, its head is light, fluffy and long lasting in its off-white sturdiness. Rocky early and creamy late, the froth laces intricately just above the caramel-colored beer's body underneath.

Bright citrus aromas are a clear cut grapefruit and orange juice medley. With just enough thin caramel and honey underneath, the fruity hop aromas seem to be juicier, plumper and riper because of the tantalizing sweet support. With a light grassy undertow and a peppery phenol bit, the beer clearly sides with hops over that of malt.

Even as malty sweetness greets the tongue first, its honey and caramel flavor is mid-light, just ahead of growing hop flavor. First, the citrus is bright and juicy with a delicate flavor of "Hawaiian Punch" as the grapefruit and orange is met with light pineapple and mango. After the middle palate, the hops continue to grow as the sweetness fades- leading to a gripping bitter taste of citrus rinds, fresh-cut grass and a chlorophyll-driven phenolic-type peppery taste.

Medium-light in body, the beer is all IPA. Nearly dry to the bone, only an echo of malt starch support rises as the hop dryness and mild alcohol ensures a snappy and crisp finish. Mild astringency from citrus peels and vegital hop matter detracts from the ales clean effects.

The style police will be all over this beer because its really an IPA in American Pale clothing. But for hop lovers, this will certainly be an American Pale Ale worth seeking out!

Poured from 12oz bottle into a pint glass.

Appearance: initial pour yielded a huge amount of foam -- about 10 times the height of the liquid in the glass. This is obviously a well-carbonated brew. The body is a medium gold with a light haze and moderate effervescence. The head is dissipating inconveniently slowly -- but I guess that's not a bad thing.

Smell: light, sweet malt with a big, fruity hop character. There's tangerine, berries and pear, all accompanied by a light chalkiness that I happen to really like. Great.

Taste: sweet and fruity, this really hits most of my favorite pale ale flavors. I say fruity, but these are definitely hop flavors -- they are subtle yet complex, with largely the same character present in the aroma. Just great.

Mouthfeel: medium-light body with a rocky carbonation. Not really creamy, but appropriate for the flavor and style.

Overall: I feel like this beer has carbonation issues -- mouthfeel and inconvenient head attest to this. Other than that, the flavor is great and I could quaff great quantities of this stuff!

I like other Flat 12 beers, so grabbed this one in a pick-6. Unfortunately found it to be incredibly over carbed. Took more than an hour to get it all down b/c every pour into the glass resulted in a whole glass of foam.

BUT mentioned that on an Untappd review and the company tweeted me with the offer of a refund. I suspect they had an over-yeasted batch or something. I'm going to wait a few weeks for the new shipments to come and try it again. I think I'll let it when I can safely get it at.

A - Pours a nice honey color. It has a nice looking white head, but unfortunately the beers in the 6 pack I purchased seem way over carbed. I have opened 3 of them so far, and each time I pour into a pint glass I end up with 5 fingers of head and have to wait on it to settle before I can finish the pour.

S - Very nice aroma of citrus and pine. I'm picking up a lot of lemon scents.

T - Great tasting beer. Very similar to the aroma. Nice undertones of lemon and other citrus. The pine is very pronounced, especailly on the finish. Nice bitterness to it. Have to agree with others. This is a pale ale that borders on an IPA.

M - A medium bodies beer. Has a slick feel in the mouth. Points off due to being way over carbonated. After I let it set for about 30 minutes the mouthfeel was greatly improved

O - A very enjoyable APA. For some reason the 6 pack I picked up had carbonation issues. Next time I am in Indiana I wouldnt be scared to pick this beer up once again and re review. My score would be higher if it wasnt for the carbonation problem.

12oz bottle into a pint glass.

Pours a hazy dark orange with a thin half finger white head. Hardly any head retention and just a few splotches of lacing on the sides of the glass.

Aroma is full of orange and tangerine along with some mango. Very strong tropical fruit and quite rich. There is a little biscuit underneath and some grass.

Huge punch of tropical citrus in the flavor but there is a very strong toasty malt backbone. Bitterness is on the very high side which is nice considering the decent maltiness here. Bitterness and malt lingers through the finish with a full and somewhat creamy mouthfeel.

Overall, a very nice APA that almost borders on IPA territory. Excellent hop/malt balance and quite drinkable too.

in short this is a very good pale ale! If you like Gumball head from 3f's then i recommend this beer. The aroma is similar but this beer has the passion fruit aroma which just adds to it. This is one of my go to beers and you can get plenty of it in the state of Indiana! The taste is hoppy and juicy with a medium mouth feel, which seems to have a bit of creaminess to it.

A-Translucent amber, one finger head with some carbonation.

S-Citra hops all over the place, citrus grass, lemon and some caramel as well.

T-Good bit of malt, caramel, mild hop presence, in line for an APA, Dirt and pine, slight grass.

M-Light to medium in body, nicely carbonation.

O-Not sure if the bottle was old (no bottle on/best by date) but it seemed almost too malty at times.

(Served in a bowtie glass)
A- This beer pours a clear deep orange body with a thin film of white head that fades to a ring pretty quickly. There is a sluggish carbonation of tiny bubbles.

S- The rich apricot jam hops aroma is wonderful but a bit muted and there is some soft papery green hop notes in the finish. Some fruit cocktail hints grow as it opens.

T- The apricot jam hops are dry and wonderful. There is an unripe fruit cocktail flavor to follow with a light toasted graham malt hint popping through. The finish has a nice green pungency that lingers softly after each sip.

M- The medium-light mouthfeel has a gentle fizz finish that compliments the hop pungency.

O- This has a great aroma and a great flavor of that classic Galaxy hop. It is just a bit too soft and leaves me wanting more. As it warms, it does get a bit to dry in the finish that takes away from the nice malt character. Just turn it up a bit and this would be a rock star beer.

Had a growler filled at the Filling Station in Nashville yesterday.Pours into an impy nonic a clear medium golden with a nice looking sticky white one finger head, good clarity to the body and a nice looking sticky head.Nice hop complexity in the nose with a mix of leafy, grassy, and mild pine resin intertwined with a caramel maltiness.Again good hop compleity on the palate with the pine resin a little more assertive but the grassyy and herbal components are stille there, there is a mix of caramel/biscuit and crystal sugar-like sweetness to make it semi balanced. This is a damn fine APA,just great complexity and fresh tasting, top notch here.

Pours a fairly clear golden-amber. Average head of off-white suds. Attractive tree-line lacing.

Nose is immediately recognizable -- aromatic Aussie hops with a spiky, sharp, and floral earthiness. Superb.

Taste is also wonderfully brisk and sharp, with notes of bitter grapefruit and earth again. A superlative pale ale that could easily be classified as an IPA, I'd easily pick this up again!
