A - Poured out a jet-black color with a three-finger, light brown head of bubbly foam. It left sudsy trails of lace on the glass.

S - It smelled of chocolate, toffee and roasted oats.

T - Good roasty flavor with nice chocolate and coffee taste. Some sweet caramel and toffee in the background, too.

M - It was crisp, sharp and smooth. A light to medium bodied ale with a dry finish.

O - This is a good stout. $9.99 for a 750 is a bit steep for a low ABV stout, though.

A: Dark brown tending towards black with a small one finger head. Some spotty lacing.

S: Slight smokiness and roasted malts. Coffee.

T: Coffee. Burnt caramel mixed with toffee.

M: Full bodied but not thick.

O: Drinks more like a porter than a stout. Easy drinking with good flavors.

Big fancy bottle series.
Brewed and bottles by Crider Brewing LLC in New Haven, MO.

APPEARANCE: A slow foamer, which is not a good sign. A clear brown pour yields a massive, 4+ finger, looser, foamy, light brown head with good retention. Head slowly fades to a foamy cap and leaves some chunky lacing on the glass. Clear dark brown body with lower levels of carbonation evident.

SMELL: Sour cherries, light roasted notes and some stale coffee. Dank cardboard and plenty of oxidization, though there is definitely a sour, tart note in there as well. Doesn't look promising at all.

TASTE: Pretty bad at this point. Oxidized for sure, with card board, stale coffee and tart cherries up front. Oxidized finish with stale coffee, paper and wet cardboard, and some tart flavors. The nose smelt like it might be infected, but this is basically just oxidized.

PALATE: Thinner body and slightly higher carbonation. Semi-creamy still, goes down fine and finishes rather tart and astringent. Not good either.

OVERALL: This bottle has definitely seen better days. Normally I wouldn't review old beer, but this bottle is within the best by date and the blurb on the bottle even claims that it will age well. Apparently this is a 2011 brew, so three years is a reasonable time to age a beer. I would gladly try a fresh batch of this if possible, but for now, nothing with any time on it. Drain greatly enjoyed this. Thanks again panda!

look: 3.5 | smell: 3 | taste: 3.5 | feel: 4.5 | overall: 3.5

Appearance: Very dark, but not opaque. Chocolate dark.

Nose: milk chocolate malts, coffees, dark malts, and sweet malts.

Taste: roasted malt, coffee, hints of sweet malt, with a milk chocolate that brings out a sweeter side.

Mouthfeel: Silky smooth. Strong point of this beer. Spot on for the style.

Overall: its a very accessible American stout that works for a good intro into craft stouts. Not overly impressed but bet that this one with some barrel aging would be really good.

Pours a black color. 1/5 inch head of an off-white color. Slight retention and slight lacing. Smells of roasted malt, slight sweet malt, and dry hop. Fits the style of an American Stout. Mouth feel is smooth and crisp, with an average carbonation level. Tastes of roasted malt, coffee, hint of sweet malt, and slight dry hop. Overall, good blend and feel; the coffee is especially delicious.
