A - Jet-black color with an off-white, one-finger head of foam.

S - It smelled of java. Nice coffee and chocolate aromas.

T - Good coffee and chocolate flavors with a touch of toffee. Roasty with a touch of bitterness.

M - It was crisp, sharp and smooth. A medium bodied ale with a dry, clean finish.

O - Another good brew from 2nd Shift. Please, keep sending them our way!

From BeerAdvocate Magazine #87 (Apr 2014):

Coffee, Chocolate, Delightful

A twist on 2nd Shift’s LSD, brewed with an Ethiopian roast called Aramo Grande 1 from Blueprint Coffee. Only 35 cases were bottled. Big, freshly ground coffee nose rising from a most impressive coffee colored, foaming head with. Viscous, creamy, roasty, charred raisins, milk chocolate, toffee, molasses, but not overly sweet. The is a straight up, coffee loaded, bigass Stout that was indeed a delight to try.

Pours black and you can tell it's thick. The head is big, brown, and sticks around. The nose is a lot of chocolate with a roasted background. The flavor is a lot of chocolate, some roasted malt, and dark fruit at the end. This has a full feel, as chewy as a stout can get. This is a great stout! The name is very fitting.

on tap at Baileys range, served in tulip

pour is dead black with a cocoa creamy and frothy head.

loads of roasted malt with a hint of chocolate and sugar

heavy on the roasted malt all around. bits of charcoal blended with a subtle sweetness. some dark chocolate mixed within.

light and easy, mild carbonation, a bit dry

easy drinking, enjoyable, no hint of this being 7.10% abv, i would have though closer to 5.5.

750 mL bottle. Pours thick. Big mocha head. Leggy and sugary looking. Smell is boozy. Roasted malt. Dark chocolate. Tastes just about the same. Boozy. Lots of dark chocolate. Molasses. Heavyand very sweet. Too big for my tastes. Needs a bit less sweetness.

Surprisingly fine beer! Had mine from Tap. Smell is rich and sweet. Jet black with nice body. Medium head - but little of the carbonation peppery burn some lesser stouts leave (a plus for me) Deep burnt caramel taste with no char - and slighly sweet roast after-taste. I describe as a malty roast - but never overpowering. I like sweet Imperials and barrel aged beers and this beer made it into my top 5. Well Done. Spiff approves. Will have some whenever I see it.

Pours a light-free shade of black with a thick foamy creme colored head. A good deal of lacing is left behind. Notes of coffee, and chocolate and roasted malts in the aroma. Really pleasant smell. The taste is a smooth blend of coffee, toffee, and roasted malts. It's not overly sweet by any means though. Incredible mouth feel. Very robust, and smooth, which makes this imperial stout a pleasure to drink. Overall, very good. Glad to see another Missouri brewery churning out some great beer.

Reviewed from notes. Served in a 12oz tulip glass. Draft.
