pours dark black with a nice viscosity. my only complaint is very little head. it dissipates quickly.

nose has a nice light vanilla and sweetness over a touch of citrus hops and roasted malt.

very bourbon forward up front, vanilla is very smooth and rides this out. through out the middle is a touch of ashy roasted malt. towards the finish the bourbon comes back with a nice smooth finish.

for 7.1%, this drinks like it is 9%. nice body on this with a nice smooth carbonation.

with the low ABV and the bottle a 750, this drinks super easy. this was quite nice.

Very lucky to score one of these.

You know that scene in Goodfellas, when Henry's running from the black helicopter and his coke connection offers him a line? The dealer says "you wanna see helicopters?" all sleazy and joking and then he makes a happy nervous twirling motion with his fingers. That's what the first sip of this beer made me do.

It's a smooth, fairly light American stout, and it's barrel aged. But only lightly so--you still get the bourbon complexities, but they're not too smoky or overwhelming. This is, maybe, the most flavorful session ale I've ever come across.

That's not to say it's perfect. A few sips in, I wish there was a bit more complexity to keep things interesting like a really good RIS. But, man, that's a really good opening, and it's drinkable as all hell, and really this is an excellent beer.

A - Poured out an opaque, black color with a small, light brown head of foam. It left some sudsy rings of lace on the glass.

S - It smelled of bourbon, vanilla, oak and chocolate. Good balance.

T - Dark chocolate, fig, oakiness, mild vanilla and some boozy bourbon flavors. Nothing overpowers the other, just a good blend.

M - It was smooth and sharp. A medium to full bodied ale with a somewhat dry finish.

O - This is a fantastic beer. Thanks to given2flybrewing for sharing.

One out of 204 bottles produced of their LSD stout aged in Buffalo Trace Bourbon Barrel.
Barreled: December 29, 2011
Bottled: March 5, 2012

My brewer friend (Grocery) had a short pour bottle probably not included in the 204 official bottles. We cracked this open during High on Fire show at Dark Lord Day 2012. Served in a clean plastic tulip. 2nd time I had this beer.

It's black like it should be, The smell is sweet and mild bourbon in a unique way compared to the many other barrel aged beers I've experienced. The taste had very little alcohol to it. Great balance of sweet chocolate and soft bourbon notes. Had a slight aggressive kick to it that kept it very interesting.

Poured into a tulip glass from a 750ml bottle.

Pours a slight rich dark brown and black color with a nice 0.5 inch head that is nice and tan. Quite dense bubbles are formed with some chunkier ones sprinkled throughout.

Sweet vanilla notes with some oaky woody notes. Nice rich malts can be perceived as well as some slight caramel notes. There is some nice milk chocolate sweetness as well.

Nice combination of traditional American Stout with the Bourbon. Its interesting to taste as stout that is not a Double/Imperial stout and yet is aged in a Bourbon Barrel. Definitely milder and traditional stout body and flavor with some nice extra sweetness and burn but still very drinkable. Nice roasty malt notes with some toasted bread in there as well as slightly roasted coffee. There is some milk chocolate sweetness int here. These flavors are then hit with some nice slight boozy heat and sweetness as well as with some nice woody notes.

Pretty good offering from these guys. I remember having the regular LSD and thought it needed something more. This was definitely the answer. Good stout with nice bourbon notes.
