Very solid selection of beers. While friendly, the folks working there don't seem to be that knowledgeable about what they're serving. Food is OK; run-of-the-mill bar food.

Well, I don't write up reviews very often but my recent experiences have not even remotely mirrored some of these recent reviews...

I hadn't even heard of Beermuda up until a few weeks ago, although I've frequented Ho1kB for quite a while now. I was recently searching for an 'Eleanor' beer of mine and a fellow beer connoisseur recommended Beermuda. I was a little skeptical after reading some of the reviews on here but I decided to give it a shot anyway. Went in on a Monday afternoon right after work and had a seat at the upstairs bar alongside an eclectic group of patrons. Impressed by some of the stouts they still had on tap, I decided to stay for a few. It didn't take long before the guy next to me, whom I would have never guessed was a fellow 'stout-head', to strike up conversation. After my beers at the upstairs bar I ventured down the cramped stairs into the basement, fully expecting to find a dirt floor and some old bottles covered in cobwebs. To my surprise...it was the exact opposite...full size bar and a very respectable bottle selection! The entire wall is lined with windows so it does not feel like you're cramped up in a 'basement'. I managed to track down the unicorn that I was looking for and talked to the bartender (Andy) for a while, who was very helpful and knowledgeable.

A week later, I had stopped in to find another 'Eleanor' but they didn't have it out yet. I bellied up to the basement bar to grab a few beers and wait for my significant other to arrive. We drank quite a few good beers and had some excellent (can't stress excellent enough) food that night. The bar was relatively empty except for a few other guys and the owner, he was a blast and he made sure that we did not leave disappointed. Jen, the bartender, was also excellent.

I've stopped in a few other times to grab beer and have absolutely no complaints. One of the other bartenders downstairs, I believe his name was Wally, was also extremely knowledgeable and hospitable when I stopped in on a Saturday afternoon to grab a beer and a few to go. I will probably stop for a quick one on my way home this week as well.

I don't really see where these other reviews came from, this establishment was by no means dirty or inhospitable. I will still frequent Ho1kB as well, now I just have another source for craft beer and good food in my arsenal. The beer connoisseurs of New Ken should consider themselves lucky!

First place to review, only because of how disappointed I've been after four visits over a span of a year and a half.
Take into consideration all four of my visits have been downstairs in the "bier cellar"

Atmosphere - Absolutely atrocious, this is by far the worst part, the regulars that go there are loud, obnoxious and unruly. One time I was there with a friend who had heard about it and wanted to check the place out, we sat at the table closest to the end of the bar and three guys, completely drunk (shame on the bartender that served them, you shouldnt even have a job) were each seated at the bar with a chair between each of them and were being extremely loud, cursing (which thats up to you if you are ok with it, but this is supposed to be a place that you can bring your family? fat chance) and telling gross stories about their sexual lives. The staff didn't care.
Yesterday was my most recent visit, just because I was closely and wanted to see if they had anything interesting in stock. Within about 10 second of walking in I was hit with literally the most gut-wrenching smell I have ever experienced. I was in and out of their quickly but the smell was making me sick. It smelled like spoiled meat that had been fermenting on urine and clorox. I have no clue what was making it smell so bad but that might have been the nail in the coffin for me ever going back.

Service - What a Joke, if you live in New Ken/Arnold and have no social skills and know absolutely nothing about beer, you should apply to work here. From bottom to top of management, everyone is unfriendly, unknowledgable, and has a serious attitude. The tap handles DO NOT represent the beer they actually have on draft. Sometimes you'll have to look at the white scrap book paper they have taped on the handle to find the name of the beer that is actually on tap there. The bartending staff have absolutely no idea of whats on tap either. Good luck to them and you if you can find the tap list, better yet, that its updated!

Selection - They actually have an OK selection, you got your typical stuff from most major craft breweries, a decent variation of style, but the problem here is 70% of the beer they stock is out of date. I'd guess easily 20% of that is over a year or more. I bought, (for fun times) a bomber of RuinTen and Stone 16th, just to have and the price wasnt awful, but in reality, 1.5 years for IPA's? Come on, you shouldn't be selling them any more that $3 a bottle at most.

Value - Prices are either average or a little lower than average.

I'm more of a regular at House of 1000 beers, so maybe I'm just more comfortable there. OR MAYBE its that the staff there is friendly, and knows their beer, and the place doesnt smell like musky dog feces! Considering how close these two establishments are, its a no brainer to go to Ho1kB. I would like to support both, even more so Beermuda cause of the better prices, but its so overwhelmingly unprofessional, and detracts from the enjoyment of beer. Their sign says "Get lost here". Sure thing.

EDIT 2-2-16: Went there last week, literally took over 20 minutes to check out, because no one knows the pricing on beer. While there wasn't any kind of awful aroma, the service is absolutely atrocious, and I dont blame the bartenders, but the owners and management. Its obvious that the owners could care less about fresh beer, consistent pricing, and good service. I'm amazed this place is still open.

Beermuda is hard to describe. It is a gem when you consider its surroundings - it's close to an Eagles & Vets Club. The selection is nice, especially the draft selection.

But the staff is terrible! From the management, to the servers, the bartenders; horrible. For a place that touts its large selection; no one seems to know a damn thing about any of the beers they have with the exception of Bud Light which is what 90% of their clientele drink. They do not draw a beer crowd at all! If you go there and get anything other than one of the shitty 3 (Bud, Miller, Coors) you'll get a glare from the low lifes inside.

And onto the decor and interior. What a waste of space! For some reason they split the dining room off from the main bar area with a glass wall! Why? And there is a bottle shop & bar downstairs that is only accessible by walking outside and back inside or finding the "hidden staircase". WTF?

In summary, don't go there. It's a waste of time hanging out with an intolerant crowd and intolerant staff. My last experience says it all.

Me: "Can I have an Abita Purple Haze?"
Bartender: "Sure. Here you go."
Me: "It's not a twist off, could you please take the top off and give me a glass."
Bartender: "[After awkward pause and evil stare and in a sarcastic tone] Sure, okay..."
Me: "Wow, this smells really bad! It's six months expired! (Obviously nobody cares about rotating).
Bartender: "Well, what am I supposed to do? If you get another one, it'll just be the same so whatever."
Me: "Can I have another bottle?"
Bartender: "I guess so but I need to ask management since you did take a sip."

We found this place a few months ago although we have drove by it many times unnoticed.

iIt is a weird bar area as it is overly lighted and decor is totally non descript.

Put all that aside and it is a craft beer drinkers' dream. They rotate beer fast since they use only little kegs and have 66 going at all times.

The prices are lower than anywhere I have been in the Pittsburgh area.

The food is surprisingly clean and delicious.

The staff is friendly enough and knowledgeable about their brew offerings.

I like it!

Living all my life in the area, I never had been inside Beermuda (many other names in the past) until last year. I have been in there many times since, especially with family for dinner. The beer selection is pretty good, maybe not the selection House of 1000 has, but they will have an occasional rarity. The prices are pretty reasonable. The food is at Beermuda is excellent, which is why I do not have a problem getting the family to go.

Ahh, Beermuda. A great concept, great beer selection and great food in such an unfortunate venue.

Atmosphere - This place began life as a house and has since been built onto I'd say at least twice to accommodate the transition to a business. The result is.. bizarre, to be honest. Went when it was cold out, but they do have a large, nice looking outdoor patio. Wish we'd been able to sit there. The bar, which is the first thing you encounter when you enter, is ridiculously smokey. To a person who doesn't smoke, it made my eyes burn and water literally from the moment I stepped inside. In desperate need of some ventilation. Passing through the bar to the seating area, which I'd say used to be a living room, is very sparse and filled with wobbly tables and old, uncomfortable chairs. The beer cellar downstairs, which is very nice, is only accessible from a very narrow, very steep hallway that makes you feel as though you're descending into a dungeon. In a word: creepy

Service - Our waitress was very polite and sweet. We were there during prime seasonal for fall, so I wanted a Pumking but they were out. Settled on a local pumpkin brew that was recommended by the waitress which was pretty tasty. Service was good overall, no complaints.

Selection - Menu is pretty large and versatile for a place like this. A nice selection of taps but the selection down in the cellar was much more impressive.

Food - Ordered wings and sandwiches. They have some interesting wing flavors and ours were tasty but a bit cold. Sandwiches (I think it's safe to say they specialize in varietals of cheese steaks) and mine did not disappoint.

Value - Nothing to complain about with the price. Pretty standard for bar type food and drink.

If they had a more proper venue this could be a really great place but the space they're in holds them back something awful. If I ever go back to New Kensington I wouldn't be opposed to dropping in, but the building will prevent me from going out of my way to visit again.

Kid and family friendly restaurant side, but bar side smokey as hell... Food selection and quality is great. Big menue with many choices.... Awesome food. Never had anything that wasnt great tasting. Excellent sandwich's.. Wings Ok, but above average. Beer selection is good, but drafts always out of what I wanted on each visit. Summer outdoor deck seating is cool. Service always friendly and good. Bottle selection good too, if they are not out what you want. Reasonably priced when you consider food is higher quality than most beer bar places.

Went here after a bit of dental surgery just to scope out the changes. From recent reviews they are now up to 20+ taps, along with the coolers in the back and an impressive beer cellar in the basement (plus more taps)

Prices are quite reasonable ranging for 4-5 bucks for typical offerings and up to $6.50 for offering of St. Bernardus Abt 12. Didn't try any food but heard it was good.

Growlers I assume can be filled and to go prices seem a bit high on some things. Noted they still have 2010 Pumking jacked up to 18 dollars along with this years KBS for 13 so watch out for the hype on some of these, not worth it! I was able to get a Local beer and walk out with a six pack of Harry Eyeball (was nice to find it old and in a cooler) for 10 bucks no tax. The on tap beer was affordable at only 4.

Finally they seem to have a bottle shop offering happy hour with a 1 dollar off charge. Happens around 4-6 I guess. Will be back to check on new beers and other cooler offerings!

Was always a little intrigued by this place - it seemed to pop up within the last half year or so, only yesterday got a chance to check it out.

Very unassuming atmosphere - all one room, a moderate-sized bar on the right as you enter & the "dining side" on the left, with about six tables & a pool table. Coolers behind the bar, a little divey without being grimey. Upon entering, a dude at the bar announced loudly,"5-0's here!" Hardy-har.

Decent selection in the coolers - solid craft standards, a few bombers. Good, nothing spectacular or amazing. Not a lot of taps, but most of what they had was quality, including St. Bernardus Abt 12.

I was happy to see a few leftover bottles of Pumking at the bottom of the cooler. Deciding to grab one, I asked what the price was - "Seven bucks." Sweet! I grabbed all four.

This was just a quick, scout-&-go kind of visit. Based on what I saw, I may be inclined to go back & spend a little more time - I didn't get anything to eat, & I might be inclined to grab a draft sometime. I happened to catch sight of a few regulars at House of 1000 Beers, one of whom seemed to work there. Interesting. I kind of doubt that this will become a regular place, but had a decent selection & the price was certainly right.
