Pale yellow, or even green, thin color. Foam bubbles away into oblivion in moments, leaving this beer looking very sad. Smells worty with the head up, and light bready malts with it down. Taste is quite sweet and disatisfyingly thin. A bit of an unpleasant aftertaste. Carbonation isn't too high, which helps make this sweetish cheap lager a little more on the drinkable side.

I enjoyed this at Botequim Informal in Leblon while visiting some friends in Rio De Janeiro. Restaurants in Brazil are vicious in their competition for the title of best "draft house" in the city even though there are only three popular draft beers here (Kaiser, Antarctica, and Brahma), and a restaurant will only serve 1 of the three, no mixing of brands here. So to win the title of best draft house really depends on the pour and apparently Botequim Informal has been voted Rio's best draft house for 3 years running. As the beer arrived to my table I started to realize why. A magnificent billowing creamy white head sat upon a golden color body. I won't talk about taste that much because the taste is very similiar to Skol, in that it's ok but nothing special, but the body in this beer was heavenly. It was like drinking a cloud. Extremely light and creamy. I will admit that if i haven't had this beer in draft form outside of this bar, so it probably isn't normally like what i experienced, but i can only review what i know.

This is not a Mulata, neither in colour, nor temperament!
This beer is just about as light in colour as a beer can get, and the foam is white as pure, norwegian snow. It doesn't hold as long as the snow however, but disappears quite quickly. The beer is freshly sparkling and with a dry, clean taste that is taken over by a slight hop touch. A typical tropical pilsner without much attitude, but at least refreshing and harmonic in whatever little taste it has...

My Brother-in-Law brought this back from Brazil*. He told me it cost approximately 39 cents a can and it tasted like it. Gold with a large head that never went away. I smelled faint wheat tones maybe a small lemon or fruit. Taste was clean with no malt or hops to mention. It reminded me a of a Bud Light. Can't complain too much though.

*Off topic: what a nice job, flying planes from a manufacturer in Brazil to St. Martin to Cleveland.

A work trip to Brazil this week, gave me the chance to sample some local delights. After a disappointing try of ‘Cintra Pilsner’ at the “Top Beer” Bar, I moved up the Avenue Atlântica in Copacabana Beach, Rio de Janeiro, and decided to call in a Restaurant Café for some food, as well as a more well known and widespread Brazilian beer.

Listed on the Menu as “Chopp da Brahma”, this is basically the standard lager offering from Brahma. Widely available in the Can here, I actually tried this on Draft (Tap).

Presentation: Slightly yellowy looking fluid, with a massive pearl white head that sits tightly in a 250ml glass, a strange and rather small size I found - still not a bad idea really for trying a range of Brazilian Lagers I suppose.

Nose: Grainy, very light in strength with some whiffs of pilsner like malts.

Taste: Clean, crisp, rather an easy going beverage that is totally inoffensive. Some malts and very light hops, but not much else to write home about really.

Mouthfeel: There is a satisfying feel to the beer in the mouth, mainly due to the smooth carbonation, not too bad really.

Drinkability: On a hot day it’s a six-pack “pounder” lager; on a cool one evening sat outside in Brazils Winter, I could still easily sink a few without any trouble, but it’s never going to win any prizes for appeal.

Overall: Very average, with no surprises – but by no means bad. The Brahma Extra if you can get your hands on it (Bottles only I believe) is a much better offering though.

If you're reading this, and own a beer/liquor store, please rotate your stock. My bottle poured with what looked like giant sea monkeys floating in it. Big clumps of yeasty sediment floating within a golden sea. Very unappetizing. The thing is, I was checking the bottle in the store, to make sure it was clear and looked good. Somewhere between the store and my house, it magically spawned aquatic plant life. I hate wasting money like this. Old and unappealing. I had to try a sip just to make sure it wasn't still ok, and it sure as hell wasn't. Sour, old, and unappetizing.

Appearance: Pure white head that disappears immediately.Clear light golden body.

Smell: Smells like a wet glass

Taste: Thin and grainy yet sharp pungent flavor, something is off.
No aftertaste to speak of. Really light flavor. No hopiness.

Mouthfeel: Alkaseltzer-like.

Drinkability: Made to be refreshing on super hot days for people who do not like beer.

Twice reviewed consistent results.
