Notes & Commercial Description:
Beer added by: beertooth on 01-23-2011

In honor of Officer Mathias Degan, the first of 8 of Chicago's Finest to lose their lives in the line of duty during the Haymarket Affair. Copious amounts of Citra Hops deliver wonderful citrus and mango notes. At 10% ABV, we feel Mathias is a proper representation of the strength and courage of our Boys in Blue. Raise one to thank the fine Officers of the Chicago Police Department for their sacrifice.

A: Clear and copper. little tiny carbonation bubbles with a thick white head. Good lacing!

S: Woah, dank and herbal! a huge wave of caramel oranges with s shot of sharp grapefruit. honeysuckle and more freshly bloomed flowers surround your nostrils. Delish.

T: Very sweet. A ton of pineapple. crisp apple and a truck load of mango. Sweet caramel backs up these tropical fruits. Towards the middle mouth kiwi and butterscotch come in before another helping of pineapple comes through. A bit buttery and some floral parts abeit light. Hides the abv very well.

M: Medium body with low carbonation. long tart finish. a very creamy dipa

O: Very impressive. delicious and fruity. quite juicy. one of the sweetest and most pineapple forward ipas i've ever had / 94

about as big as an ipa can get, this is a downright beast, and it nearly kicked my butt. well, it did kick my butt technically, but whatever. this red tinted bronze colored nectar boasts a few inches of off white head as dense as coolwhip. the nose is massively hopped. sort of like whatever was left in the hop room went into the kettle, I taste a lot of varietals in here, a lot of oils and resins, and a lot of bitterness. not sure if there was a method to this insanity or not, but I love what it tastes like. intensely bitter throughout, with shades of sweet caramel and dryer pale malt flashing in and out, between orange zest, lemon acid, and dried mango bits. massive amounts of flavor packed into this ipa, and not all of it from hops, very enjoyable. the alcohol is there, but its not apparent that its 10% abv until after you drink it. full body as expected, oily and sticky too, but not at all weighty in my guts. as big and brash as this is, its also impressively complex and well put together. if you imbibe on this freak, make sure you have a driver...
