Visited the Haymarket Brewery last evening and had a taste of all their fine ales on tap. The 7GA IPA was clear copper color...the froathy white head that laced quite nice. The smell carried some pine and citrus, but neither was overpowering or as good as I would have liked. The taste had some citrus flavor balanced by malt. Similar to the smell neither overpowering. The mouthfeel was ok, carbonation ran thin and the body was light to medium. The beer came off the pallet fairly clean. Overall it was just ok....nothing to really get excited about.

This is "a 'wet hop' IPA...brewed with locally grown Chinook and Centennial hops from Oak Park!" Served in a 4oz taster glass.

A - Filled to the brim. Thin cap of foam that lingers indefinitely. As the beer is consumed plenty of lacework is left behind. Transparent light bronze body.

S - This 'wet hops' aren't very potent - it took me a few tries to figure out which beer was the IPA and which one was the Oktoberfest. The hop character that exists is earthy, floral, and grassy, with a bit of herbal character as well - however it's quite understated. There are some bready malts and a bit of fruity ale yeast.

T - Sugary malt, some toasted bread, a bit of orange citrus hop flavor, and light bitterness in the finish. Again, understated and a bit dull, albeit better than the aroma.

M - Zesty medium carbonation, medium body, with a very dry finish. No obvious alcohol.

D - It's a pretty boring beer - more of an American or English Pale Ale than an IPA. The Oak Park hops are lacking in potency, or there just weren't enough of them used. I'd skip this one and have Mathias III instead.
