Throughout her life, Lizzie Holmes believed that women and workers could achieve justice only in a society built on the principles for which the Haymarket martyrs had died. She was arrested alongside the other 8 martyrs, but was released 2 days later and all charges were dropped. It is in her honor that we name this delicious American IPA brewed with 2 pounds of Simcoe hops per barrel.

Served in a chalice-esque glass at the brewpub.
Another stop on the Second Annual Bachelor Party Free-For-All! This one pours a clear amber topped by a finger of off-white foam. The nose comprises leek, rich caramel, and pine sap. The taste brings in more of the same, with the caramel really taking control of the situation. This isn't to say the Simcoe hops aren't there and doing their thing, just that the caramel comes through a bit stronger than them. The body is a light-leaning medium, with a light carbonation and a sticky, gooey-ish feel. Overall, a nice, balanced (almost too balanced...) IPA. Not bad.

The Lizzy Semcoe IPA is very good. I had it served on tap at the brew pub. The color is a dark fire hued gold with nice clarity and tons of white lacing. The nose has subdued hops, not nearly as aromatic as the description led me to believe. Mild pine bitterness in the nose with a hint of tropical fruit. Taste features more simcoe delight with waves of pine and citrus. The finish is quite bitter. The mouthfeel is medium with the right amount of carbonation. Overall, I thought this was a good IPA.

Poured from tap into a pint glass at the brewpub. Pours a dark orange color with a nice and small head
Very hop forward aromas of pine resin, hops and tropical citrus. While not extremely complex it does everything very well
medium/full bodied with a real good attack, but it then falls off a bit and thins out. Nice flavors of pine resin and tropical citrus with some fresh hops
A bit disappointing. Very good nose but it just falls off on the feel

On-tap at Haymarket. Served in a 4oz taster glass.
A - This is the lightest of the new hoppy beers. There's less foam and lace as well, leaving behind only a few wisps and sticky fingers. Slightly hazy golden orange body.
S - Grapefruit, lemon, a hint of cat pee and a touch of tropical fruits. Less sweet than the Centennial - the malt character is more bready and neutral.
T - Taste is similar, but with more emphasis on tropical fruits and peach sweetness over the catty and tangy citrus. Medium herbal bitterness, and fairly neutral malt character.
M - Nice medium body, medium-low carboation, juicy hop resins, with a nice dry finish. No obvious alcohol.
D - Another nice hoppy offering from Haymarket - if you really dig Simcoe beers you'll probably like this even more than I did. After a brief dry spell in the winter months Haymarket's really been bringing it lately.

Great lacing, nigh on perfect. Cloudy Amber body, great carbonation. Long lasting sticky lacing gives a lovely portrait for March madness commercial breaks.
Smells... Grapes, citrus, low grapefruit, bright citrus notes, oranges, pineapple, mango and bubblegum. Huge huge hop presenc. This is awesome!!! Banana lightly dusted with clove for a finish. As spicy and hard to discern clove from pepper.
Strongly bitter from start to finish. It's got a lightly bubblegum nature throughout that competes with the bitterness giving a great balance.
The tropical flavors have a hard time transitioning to the taste. its got a nice simple sweetness, a bready yeast character, nice dry finish, low alcohol presenc, sticky hop bitterness.
