4oz glass at Haymarket Pub & Brewery
A: Clear golden body with a decent white head that left some lace on the glass.
S: There was a very strong presence of grapefruit and grass. The Citra hops are no doubt responsible for the fruity smells and from what I could smell, they used a lot of them.
T: Very citrusy in taste with a nice bite and a hoppy finish.
M: Fairly carbonated on the palate but nice and crisp in its flavors.
O: A very flavorful and balanced beer. Pretty fruity and hoppy and pairs well with Haymarket's chicken sandwich.

Served in a chalice at the brewpub.
Bachelor Party-Palooza chugs on at Haymarket, this time with a collaborative wheat IPA. I know I'm game... This stuff pours a mostly clear brass topped by a finger o lightly off-white foam. The nose comprises fresh Citra hops (unsurprising given their inclusion, but a bit surprising given their strength here), light grass, light biscuit, mild lemon zest, a pinch of coriander, and the vaguest possible sense of black pepper. The taste brings in more of the same, though the Citra doesn't come through as powerfully as in the smell, replaced by a stronger grass component and a hint of leek. The body is a light medium, with a light moderate carbonation and a sorta/kinda drying-ish finish. Overall, a pretty solid wheat IPA, one that showcases the Citra without drowning me in them (something many other breweries are wont to do).

On-tap at Haymarket. Served in a 4oz taster glass.
A - Filled close to the brim, with a thin near-complete white cap, thick collar, and splotchy lace. Lightly hazed bronze body.
S - Big Citra hop aroma imparts notes of juicy citrus and a hint of onion, while the Belgian yeast adds a phenolic touch. Malt bill seems more Belgian, with stone fruits and wheat dominating.
T - Taste has more wheat and less sweetness. Citrus flavors are more bitter peel and less juicy flesh, although it gets a tad sweeter as it warms. More Belgian yeast character as well, with moderate hop bitterness in the finish.
M - Dry, chewy, medium body, with lower carbonation. Plenty of resinous hop oils in the finish and no obvious alcohol.
D - A very nice beer, and one of Haymarket's best hoppy Belgian offerings. Would gladly drink this one again in a larger serving next time I'm down there.

one of the better beers I had at haymarket all day, which is a really cool place by the way. this beer is a single hopped Belgian ipa with citra hops, and its a good call. copper and clear on the pour with a khaki head, fizzy like a soda, but reasonably long lasting. the Belgian yeast is the first thing I smell, a little acidic, and just a tad dominating over the lighter and summery citra hops, which are also used to bitter here, not their usual function, but it works with the yeast. sort of a caramel grain look and taste, with a bit of residual sugar to it. its a wheat ipa, but has a much darker groove to it than the normal white ipa style. the Belgian yeast is also a dominant flavor, and the citra hops seems to be overcome by it just a bit. the flavors all work very well together, but the proportions are in need of the slightest tweak to really set this baby off. it sort of comes in waves rather than being a cohesive experience. still, I loved the bright feel, tickly carbonation, and subtle alcohol presence. its a creative beer and an excellent illustration of the style. absolutely one to get when you visit haymarket.

Half finger head with excellent lacing on a murky golden with copper hue body. Clove, citrus and Belgian yeast aroma with a musty Belgian yeast, clive, herbal and earthy hop flavor. Medium body and moderate carbonation. The beer is true to the style and well balanced for both malt and hop preserve. The Belgian character is strong. A nice brew.
