On-tap at Haymarket. Served in a 4oz taster glass.

A - White foam settles to a partial cap, collar, and rings of lace. Transparent dark golden body.

S - Plenty of Simcoe hop goodness here, with tropical fruits, some mild dankness, and perhaps a touch of cat pee. A lightly browned sugar malt bill reveals the balance I expect in a DIPA, even though this straddles the line for the styles.

T - The taste has a bit more earthy bitterness to it in addition to the fruit melange of hops and sweet malt flavors. Once the tropical fruits and orange zest dissipates it's supplanted by surprisingly moderate-to-high bitterness.

M - Medium bodied, with present but lower carbonation. Super dry texture and a crisp finish. Seems like a bigger beer than the listed 7%.

D - A nice beer with good balance and a refreshingly low ABV. It's got more herbal and earthy flavor than I generally expect from all-Simcoe beers, but that's actually a welcome counterpoint to the intensity of the fruity flavors. Probably couldn't drink more than one in an evening due to the bitterness, but well worth trying.

poured from tap at haymarket. Poured into pint glass with a solid orange/gold color with a good foamy head.

Very floral aromas along with pears, citrus, and hops. Nice complexity with good depth as well.

Good medium body, but it's all attack with a thinner mid and a light finish. There are fresh flavors of pears, citrus and florals.

A better and more complete feel would make this really damn good. I like the freshness to the hops, especially when smelled.

Served in an imperial pint glass at the brewpub.

My farewell to my third visit to this place. It pours a mostly clear sunrise brass-amber topped by a finger of off-white foam. The nose comprises mild orange and grapefruit peels and light sweet caramel. Simple, but nice. The taste brings in more of the same, with the citrus coming through sharper, fleshier, and the caramel not as sweet. The body is a light medium, with a light moderate carbonation and a dry finish. Overall, a pretty tasty DIPA. 'Nuff said.
