Refreshing and tart. Made with Bohemian pilsner malt, white wheat, and Mt. Hood hops.

Napolean himself dubbed the Berliner Weisse Ale the Northern Champagne.

You will create your own endless summer with a pint of our DeSoto Berliner Weisse Ale brewed with raspberries.

On tap at House of Brews, Jensen Beach. Served in a pint glass.

Appearance - Hazy deep orange with a hint of peach when held up to the light. Nice white head. Retains pretty well.

Smell - Lots of raspberries. A little bit of grain behind it, but mostly raspberry.

Taste - Raspberry, but it's more blended into the grain. No sweetness. A tiny bit of acidity. Lingering raspberry flavor.

Mouthfeel - Heavy for a berliner and not sour at all.

Overall - Decent fruit flavor. Not a great berliner base.

Pours an orange color that has as light pinkish hue to it. Head was mostly white, but again with a slight pink hue. Aroma was slighty wheaty, with subtle raspberry sweetness, some funk and just a kiss of tartness. Taste is less tart, almost not tart at all, with hints of raspberry sweetness and grainy wheat notes. Body is light, crisp, clean, refreshing. Ample carbonation.

Overall, its just a boring interpretation of the style. There's nothing particularly bad a out it, but there's nothing overly good about it.

A - The bottle gushes upon opening and pours with a three finger head of white foam on top of a clear, dark golden body. The head settles at a moderate pace and leaves nice lace on the glass.

S - A musty, funky aroma with notes of dry raspberry.

T - Tart raspberry up front with a wave of acidity in the middle. A light musty note in the finish with just a hint of lingering dry fruit.

M - A moderately thick body, high carbonation, and a dry finish.

D - Not bad, it smells a bit more funky and interesting than it tastes, but it is about at the right level for a Berliner weisse. The fruit comes through more in the aroma than the flavor, but it adds just enough to keep things interesting. This was a real surprise as I expected something sweet and totally out of character for the style, and while it isn't as sour as many examples of the style, it is actually very nice.

DeSoto pours out a pink-tinged golden color with a large head and huge amounts of carbonation. The aroma is sweet and tart, with the raspberries really ruling the nose. Unfortunately, there's a bit of a burnt rubber aroma here as well. The taste is really, really strong on the raspberries. There's a bit of the characteristic tartness and acidity I come to expect from the style, but the strong wheat on the finish gets rid of any hint of tartness as quickly as it appears. The mouthfeel is light and extremely carbonated - the carb level is honestly soda-like and a bit too much for me. The drinkability is great. Overall, this is a solid beer that, besides a touch of tartness, is really more of a fruited wheat beer than what I come to expect from a Berliner Weisse. Still tasty though.

Label notes: Ale Brewed With Raspberries. 3.4% ABV. 6.2 IBU.

Reviewed from notes. Poured from bomber into a CCB pint glass.

A: Pours a medium gold with only a bit of haze. Forms a pinkish white head with lots and lots of visible carbonation.

S: Funky, sour, barnyard, and tangy fruit. Much funkier than I would consider standard for a "Florida-weisse".

T: Follows the nose, with the addition of some wheat-bready malt. The funk and tangy fruit flavors make up the majority of the flavor profile. The finish is moderately sour.

M: A light body, bubbly mouthfeel, no alcohol presence, and a great amount of carbonation sensation.

O: Not bad. A decent berliner in a bottle, but having had it once, I don't think I'd go out of my way for another. Tasty though.
