12oz Can

Great to have finally found a FL brewed stout in a 12 oz can. Very solid entry. Smooth and really drinkable.

Served on-tap at the Intuition tap room.

A: Deep black with a lovely tan head that leaves a light lacing

S: I picked up chocolate, coffee, and some dried fruit like raisins

T: The flavors of chocolate, raisins, and coffee fill your palate and the beer finishes with what I would call a tinge of fruitiness from the lingering hops

M: Full-bodied, smooth and heavy

O: I loved this beer. This is probably my favorite Russian Imperial Stout that I've tried, and it makes me sad that I would have to travel from Minnesota back to Florida to try it again. I did pick up a growler of the beer after sampling in the tap room and it was equally enjoyable the second time through.

at brewery

A nearly opaque and nearly black brew, but with deep red-brown highlights showing, and revealing a clear liquid. The modest tan head leaves excellent lacing. Good medium-low carbonation.

Surprised by the rich flavor of this stout, until I saw on BA it is a Imperial. Less complex, but otherwise nearly up with world class beers of this style. Both expresso and a little smokey on the nose, but barely noticeable in tasting. No burnt notes despite a nicely dark roast flavor. Fine, lingering flavor of dark roast.

edit: now its a half pour, I do not feel this beer is as strong a they claim it is. Anyway its a rip off now at 10oz for the same price. IMHO, not to mention its a tad hoppier than it first was.

A: poured into 14 oz sniffer glass. Dark with a 1 inch head. Looks like a typical stout, supposed to be Imperial strength. No way to know.

S: very nice coffee, roasted malt flavors one expects to find in a RIS, it had a nice deep chocolate smell mixed in with the roasted and burnt coffee. Very nice not too heavy.

T: deep rich chocolate front end taste, not too bitter. Has lots of dark roasted coffee and roasted malt flavors very complex and was a nice stout. Had some alcohol in the taste! quite malty no hops detected.

m: Full body, a little oily and creamy at same time. carbonation was flat. finish was slightly bitter.

d: was decent had 2

this was from notes, will update when/IF we go back.

On tap at the House of Brews, Jensen Beach.

Appearance - Pours black. Slight transparency at the edges. Arrives with a fleeting off white head which settles to just a thin collar.

Smell - Gotta be a bucket of oatmeal added to this thing. Very roasty. Dark chocolate and a bit of burnt aromas and smoke. Charcoal would be the beer snob descriptor I'm looking for.

Taste - Again, it tastes like a ton of oatmeal. More emphasis on the chocolate and coffee roasted malts. Finishes with an alcohol bite and some slightly harsh flavors. The alcohol and malt bitterness don't combine so well back there.

Mouthfeel - Thick and chewy. Medium carbonation. The finish is abrasive though.

Overall - Good stuff overall. Enjoyable and nice to see another good stout from a Florida brewery.

Thanks to dsauter for this extra! Thanks Danny!

poured from flip top growler into tulip glass.

Appearance: black bodied beer with a solid mocha brown cap. Spotty lacing.

Smell: malts are a little bit sweet and roasty. Almost has a milk nose to it. Hint of smokiness also.

Taste: Pretty similiar to the nose. A lactose milk stout sweetness starts the beer off and blends with a nice roasty coffee note to be honest is almost like a coffe with sugar and creamer. Then the roastiness starts to build in the middle of the beer and takes away the some of the sweetness. Finishes with a little bit of smokey, ashey, char. Its pretty tasty stout!

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied beer with moderate carbonation. No booziness is noted. The beer is just a bit to thin for my liking.

Overall: Really nice stout from Intuition. Would not mind trying some other beer from there line up if I ever make it down to jacksonville some day!

Poured on-tap at the brewery in JAX, the beer was served in a pint glass. The beer is a deep jet black, with auburn brown highlights and a thin, densely bubbled milk-chocolate colored head. Heavy roasted nutty and oaky smells, with some meaty characteristics. Smooth and creamy, with molasses and smokey flavors that are delicious. Very tasty. Smokey aftertaste, with a bittersweet finish. Mid-bodied, but light enough in body and ABV to session it. Very nice.

12 oz poured into an oversized snifter

A: Frothy, creamy rich espresso color head. Thick 2" which calms down but still leaves great retention leaving cloud-looking fluff on top. Light black, looks like a hue of brown. Very inviting.

S: Roasty, chocolate notes. Very mild, no crazy alcohol smell or potent aromas that turn my nose away. Taste is going to be rich and robust. In the undertones a smell of carbonation is off putting, taking away from the ingredients.

T: Clean, crisp especially for style. All the flavors you expect in an imperial stout without trying to go over the top. Taste of something warm like oatmeal on the back end making the roasted malts up front even more enjoyable. Chocolate notes through out, rich like a heresy bar with hints of dark coco, not raw or lactose flavor.

M: Mouthfeel is huge making the pallet feel like more flavor is going on then probably really is. Above average carbonation allows an easy drinking experience.

O: I would use this as my bench mark for Imperial Stouts. Nothing crazy like chili peppers but at the same time def not lacking any flavor components. Simple and too the point yet everything is spot on for the flavor profile. Highly recommended!
