On tap at the thirsty monk.

Pours a hazy dark orange with a smallish head and just a little bit of lacing.

Aroma is full of bubblegum and clove and reminds me more of a Belgian pale than a Saison. Not really any fruity or funky notes.

More of the same bubblegum/banana/clove yeast esters in the flavor. It is quite muddled and not very refreshing or thirs quenching at all which is what this style is supposed to be. Mouthfeel is pretty thick and sticky which only detracts from the drinkability even more.

Overall, not a good effort from Catawba Valley. This beer is pretty messy and not a good representation of the style whatsoever. (640 characters)

Hazy golden body with an excellent head. Smells floral, fruity and quite pleasant. Virtually no funk in this saison but seems a bit hoppy. Somewhat unusual aroma also due, most likely, to the "exclusive blend of five Belgian yeast strains". A modicum of funk in the flavor, along with some bread, honey, and earthy hops.
This beer has a light body and finishes dry.

O: a refreshing and relatively clean and hoppy saison. (422 characters)

On tap at Barley's Taproom in Asheville.

A - hazy orange golden color with a thin lacing of head.

S - yeasty, Belgian funk, faint coriander, faint fruitiness

T - bready, mild fruit, belgian yeast, faint coriander, earthy

M - medium bodied, warm, smooth, good carbonation

This is a decent beer. It has a solid flavor, it's smooth, and it's drinkable. It's worth trying. (373 characters)

On-tap at Thirsty Monk, Asheville, NC

A: The beer is clear amber-yellow in color. It poured with a thin white head that dissipated and left a thin layer of bubbles covering the surface and the sides of the glass.
S: Light to moderate aromas of Belgian yeast and spices are present in the nose.
T: The taste is similar to the smell but has notes of spices and hints of the underlying malts.
M: It feels nearly medium-bodied and dry on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: I found this beer to be a little maltier compared to other saisons, but it still had some refreshing properties due to the dryness. (619 characters)

A: Pours a very lightly hazy medium golden yellow in color with moderate to heavy amounts of active visible carbonation and faint honey orange highlights. The beer has a four finger tall dense sudsy foamy beige head that very slowly reduces to a very thick (almost finger thick) layer covering the entire surface of the beer and a thick ring at the edges of the glass. Significant amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Moderate aromas of spicy/peppery saison yeast, light fruit sweetness (apple/pear), and banana + clove. Hints of hay/barnyard but minimal amount of funk.

T: Upfront there is a light flavor of pale malts and wheat malts. That is followed by moderate flavor of spicy/peppery saison yeast and a light amount of light fruit sweetness (apple/pear) which fades away pretty quickly. Finally there is a light flavor of banana + clove.

M: Medium bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation. Light to moderate amounts of dryness are present in the finish.

O: This is a decent saison though slightly maltier than expected for the style. Alcohol is well hidden and the beer is easy to drink. I'd grab it again but it might not be my first choice. (1,154 characters)

On tap at Barley's the other day.

The beer pours a honey orange color with good head retention and lacing. The nose is kind of odd, showing light honey and considerable ginger. The combination makes me think of liquid soap, which is something I assume the brewer was not going for. The beer is much better on the palate, fortunately, showing honey, melon, cherry, and a slight bitter skunkiness on the finish. The skunky finish isn't all that great, but otherwise this is an attractive, moderately sweet, medium bodied beer. Drinkability is OK (except for the odd finish), and I found this to be one of the more interesting beers I sampled this weekend. (657 characters)

On tap at the String Bean in Belmont, NC.
She pours a hazy orange color with a thin yellowish white head and rings of lacing throughout the glass. Smells of orange peel, ginger, and some pine. Tastes much the same: ginger, orange, malts, piny hops and interesting spices. Mouthfeel is medium with a light carbonation. Overall its another good brew from the boys at Catawba Valley. (381 characters)

Pours a medium light wooden color, light head but very pretty color.

Smells of dry peppery yeast, some banana and flowers.

Taste is moderately sweet, floral and mild farmhouse yeast, notes of light fruit. Tasty, nothing special.

Mouthfeel is good--good carb, fairly creamy, pretty full body.
