Enjoyed at The Common Market at one of their CM.BEER.EDU series tastings with head brewer of CVB, Todd Boera. Leap Day 2012.

A - cloudy, medium brown with some reddish tint; thin off-white head; very light spotty lacing

S - grape jelly, fig preserves, light toffee, candy, hint of spiciness on back end

T - dark fruit, cherry, toast, malt; has a bit of a wild, tangy flavor

M - pretty light, tingly carbonation with a dry, bitter aftertaste

O - interesting, especially with wild element. would like more fresh fruit/fig flavor. brewer admitted this was buggy but at this point it had some good attributes of both belgian strong dark and wild ales. might not be good much longer i dunno...

draft at Barleys awhile back, reviewed from notes

a: served in a short, small chalice, Cleopatra is a medium-brown in color with a slight head

s: lots of deep fig and date fruit on the nose balanced out with clean pale malts, plenty sweet with only a slight papery hop aroma, some slight alcoholic heat

m: carbonation medium-high, body medium

t: much like the nose, malty fig sugars and dates open up early on the palate, moderately sweet towards the middle, with a slightly acidic, papery hop flavor to finish

o: a nice bsda and an enjoyable drink, but not terribly complex

Had this little gem on tap at Thirsty Monk in Asheville.

A surprising beer and if fig is your thing, this is your beer. Appearance is typical Belgian SDA with some ruddy red highlights.

Aroma is fantastic. Got a distinctive strawberry/rhubarb note that was unexpected and was unique. Belgian, bready yeast and some sugary caramel as well.

Taste follows the aroma except for one exception. FIGS. A ton of ripe, sugar-dusted figs wash over the tongue along with burnt caramel, raisin and Belgian yeast to balance. It's safe to say that fig is easily the predominant flavor here. Finishes pretty clean with leafy hops balancing it out with some light bitterness.

A well-crafted beer and the unique factor kept me drinking. ABV is hidden very well and the figs work very well with the style. The fig can be too much if you're not into it, but I am.

Wish I could get this stuff in bottles.
