On tap at Jack of the Wood - too interesting to pass up.

A: The ale is a sickly color, a little red and a little pink, with a haziness that adds to the unusual look. Not much of a head on this one; what's here is a white color.

S: The nose has sweet strawberries peaking through a lactic fog. The wheat is plentiful, whipping up the tartness. I'm not very familiar with rhubarb, but the strawberries are a welcome sweetness replacing any woodruff.

T: Gritty, the ale has the lactic powdery taste that I've come across in many Berliners. The wheat does it's job, drying the ale out and upping the tartness factor. The strawberry (and rhubarb) are a needed addition, cutting into the tartness with a faint sweetness. More diversionary though, as the wheat's tartness never really subsides.

M: An interesting take in Berliner Weisse, the mild sweetness of the strawberry a good touch.

On tap at Jack of the Wood in Asheville on 5/27/12.

A - orangish red with no head

S - tart, strawberry, rhubarb, faint pie crust

T - strawberry, rhubarb, pie crust, sour, tart

M - light bodied, smooth, mouth puckering, little carbonation

This is a very nice, refreshing beer. It's smooth and light with great flavor. It was perfect on this hot North Carolina day.
