Very dark brown with clear mahogany highlights. Longlasting, fine, tan cap, lots of thick lacing. Roasty aroma, hint of chocolate and caramel, slightly burnt. Same in the flavour, but with mild to moderate bitterness. Notes of caramel sweetness, sweetened chocolate, and roast. Full bodied with lowish carbonation, smooth texture, slight astringency from the dark malts. Quite enjoyable.

Bought & brought home by my lovely wife while she was lounging, er, working in San Diego this spring (via phone consultation, of course). 22 oz. bottle split with the mule, er, wife.

Pour is moderately carbed & dark, dark brown with bloody red showing through only along the extreme edges. Nose leverages the expected maltiness & roast, but there's an undercurrent of chocolatey lactose. Appealing.

Jurata has a nice profile, & by that, I mean the one on the bottle. The beer? Yeah, the beer. First impression is that it's chocolate dust dry, like it needs a side pint of tap water. After that is a long stroll into mediocrity. Mild chocolate, mild roast, faintly mild smokiness, mild molasses. A bit thin for the style, though that means I could probably drink the entire bomber if, y'know, like, I wanted to.

Like many collaborations, this one seems more about two breweries compromising than anything else. Like a 1989 hit from 'Will to Power', mildly enjoyable but immediately forgotten.

22oz bottle, with some useful phonetic spelling of the apparently Baltic language-named and of course mythical mermaid nomad from said region spelled out on the label.

This beer pours a deep, dark chocolate brown hue, with rather subtle cola basal edges, and two skinny fingers of bubbly, weakly foamy, and frothy beige head, which leaves a bit of organic invading alien spaceship lace in parts around the glass as things quickly abate.

It smells of powdery dry cocoa, somewhat sour milk, bready caramel malt, wet tobacco, understated black orchard fruit, soft citrus and piney hop notes, further ashy astringencies, brown sugar, and a hint of the alcohol that will surely come to be. The taste is more bittersweet chocolate off the top, one barely singed by a lactic coffee addendum, with a bit of black licorice, fig and date earthy fruitiness, multifaceted smokey essences - ash, in its various guises, really - muted orange cream citrus, more toasted bready pale and caramel malt, and a strangely nutty booziness - like ghosts of my Italian-American Christmas pasts.

The bubbles are low-key for the most part, but supportive when it seems to count, the body a dense, medium-full weight, and more smooth than it really has any right to be, so good, I guess. It finishes on the sweet side, chocolate, caramel, milky (sans any particular sourness) coffee, and a nondescript nuttiness carrying the day.

More of a straight ahead Yankee porter, than anything bearing the heritage of those northern European waters of lore. Where be the tartness, lads? I'll give ya the heightened ABV, as 8 points like this are not usually so easily well-hidden - as well as a generally pleasant drinkability, but the expected complexity, and at least lip service being paid to style here are sorely lacking. Pfft.

Poured into a pint glass. Split with CorgiDad and my wife.

A: Cola brown/black with a tan one finger head that lingered. Curtain-y lacing.

S: A plentiful supply of chocolate malts and barley.

T: Comes on more like a regular porter. Didn't pick up the familiar medicinal finish that trademarks a lot of BP's (and that was a plus). Chocolate, barley and a bit of coffee. Smooth, robust, molasses sweet.

M: Medium to heavy with medium carbonation.

O: A middle of the road porter; nothing that really stands out. Decent. Would pair well with cheddar or a chocolate chip cookie.
